cutting 8 years dreadlocks

ok so tomorrow ill be cutting my dreads ,I had made dreads since im 12 but I fucked them up, brush them with conditionner and started new ones couple months later,

My natural neglect dreadlockss started when I first started travelling when I was 15 . first time I hopped a freight train and stuff . I started using psycadelics in  BC, Okanagan valley and since I never cutted or brushed my hair . even washing was pretty rare :lol:

Im cutting them tomorrow and I know tripping on psycadelic will never be the same.... In the come up of almost every psycadelics I touch my dread and I know when it feels weird its because im getting fucked up :lol: I remember them helping me in the most bad tripping experience . makes me remember that im an animal like every other animal on this planet . makes me feel like a shaman when im really fucking gone . now I just cant imagine what tripping will be like when they will be gone ...

right now my dreads can touch my dick , 8 years of growing hair and tomorrow im going to cut it :sad: my life is taking a turn , im getting a huge opportunity by having my fathers company . and in this industrie people have a lot of prejudice , modern society sucks really bad.

Anybody have story to share about dreadlocks and psycadelic experience? Tripping after cutting them and stuff ? This would be really helpful !

This is a big part of me that im cutting off tomorrow... :singletear:

Not really dreadlocks, but I had hair down to my belly button until about 2 months ago, I had a manic-type episdode, and cut it off.  Such a sad day!! Think about all the memories that hair has! 8 years worth of consciousness and wisdom gone!

To make yourself feel better, I would suggest cutting a few of those bad boys open and see what's growing inside. You're likely to find mold.

I had one dread for 8 years. It started as a hair wrap that I never cut out. It had become a part of me. Recently, I was putting a woman of willendorf charm on it with a piece of copper wire and decided I didn't like the placement. (I was worried about getting smacked in the eye with this heavy metal charm) I got the charm out the this piece of copper wire was still stuck around the dread. Like an idiot, I began blindly hacking away with the wire cutters on my leatherman and accidentally cut the whole damn thing off.

It was sad. I cut it open to see what was inside. There was mold.

I love dreads. I have always thought they're pretty sexy. Now I see someone with dreads and I wonder how much mold they've got on their head.

You'll still be the same awesome person that you have always been. You will still have the memories of the life you lived with the dreads. You will still have the wisdom you gained on all your adventures. You just won't look quite the same.

Thanks Patchouli savage yea its gonna be a really sad day . but you have a pretty good argument . I already founded white and black stuff in it. I do probably have some . it doesn't smell bad tho

EDIT: me too I already put metal stuff in my dread I remember knocking my mouth in a show with the metal shit , I was bleeding and stuff :lol: I took that shit off :lol: . I only kept my beads and my strings and stuff . I guess the beads could be a nice souvenir tho ! ill keep them for sure ,

and thanks for sharing and giving me more strength for tomorrow  :manofapproval:

Sorry man, didn't mean to drag you down, I just miss my hair.  On the plus side, I get smoked up more with short hair!  Before, everyone asked me for hookups, now it's like "hey you need anything?" it's awesome!!

I miss my long hair in a way.  The opportunities I gained after cutting it far outweigh my desire to ever grow it back though.  Let it be a fond memory as you journey through the next chapter in your life.  Everything will be just fine.  :thumbup:

My mom semi recently combed her dreads out after probably 10-20 years. Since I was a kid at least and potentially before I was born even. It was pretty surreal. I didn't even think you could do that but sure enough she slowly combed those suckers down, she lost a ton of hair too of course but still had a lot left. I was impressed, just thought I would share. I feel you on the prejudice thing as well, we live in a very lam society on many levels. Definitely one of many reasons I would love to move to another country.

Ergh. I haven't been able to grow hair longer than a couple inches in years on the top of my head, and I'm 24..male pattern baldness already. can you say unlucky?

Everything will be fine!
There are lots of positives to take from making such a drastic change.
You will likely feel a sense of freedom
& a tossing away of burden more than anything
as you shed some skin
& move into a new direction in your life!

I'm actually in the process of growing my hair out. I can pull it down into my mouth, so I have a ways to go. However, I always found dreads to be kind of gross, no offense :/ I want my hair longish but smooth and something I could even wear a suit with and pull it off. I know a guy from a  long time back and hes had dreads for years and I always think they look so gross when I see him :p I think you'll like having them off to be honest. Your head will feel lighter, cleaner, less greasy and you'll probably look more approachable to anyone, let alone the opposite sex ;D This probably came off dickish. But hey, just a matter of opinion :smile:

It will be a relief.
People with tons of hair, dread locks, afro, down to your ass, whatever - they look cool but they suffer for it. At least I did... I remember having all that hair. It got dirty and oily over night and took forever to wash in the shower. Hot, humid days are torture if you're outside.

Over the last ten years I started to lose a lot of my hair and I was forced to cut it short. What a relief.. now I can shower in 2 minutes and towel dry my hair. I can cut my own hair with a beard trimmer. Of course, I look like a total square, but now I'm the kind of guy cops don't even see. Nobody asks me for drugs. Most people have no idea I get high or trip, you'd never know from looking at me. Much lower chance of ever getting busted in public.

The one thing I miss about the long hair is the kinship with other long haired dudes.

Did I miss why youre cutting them off?
Ive also had dreads for near 8 years and at this point it would be like cutting off a part of my soul. Ill never get rid of my dreads. This is a sad story. :sad:

Im cutting them cause I work in scrap metal recuperation and enviremental waste recuperation . people don't trust me in garages and stuff and in big corporation . they think im dumping their waste in the sewer or something , or like people in scrapyard always watch me so I don't steal stuff its ridiculous SMH .

This is definitely something ill miss . I cant count how many friendship started like that ...

im cutting them in about an hour... I have a good idea tho , to make this easier a little . ill keep my dreads and ill try to use it to make cake for cubes or maybe using it as bulk sub , this will be my way to thank them for all those year :emotionalmoment:

If you cut off 8 year old dreads and dont use them as a bulk sub or otherwise somehow incorporate them into something else ill be soul crushed. Dont just throw those bad boys in the trash.

I know everyone else reading this is like WTF, keep old dreads? But you have no idea the bond you make with silly pieces of hair... Dreads are more a lifestyle than a hairdoo.

I couldnt do what youre doing OP.

Ive had dreads for 8 years and I have a job working for a research lab in conjunction with the reqional township and the local college/university.

I literally work with tenured professors in a lab environment doing horticulture based research projects for industry partners.

What you said could not be more wrong. You have a personal sour opinion of dreadlocks, the vast majority of society does not feel the same.

There actually hasnt been even one full week where I was jobless since I got my dreads. It literally does not effect your job opportunities in the slightest.
