Dreadlocks
    #4888189 - 11/03/05 11:07 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

A part of me wants to get Dreadlocks before i go to University next year

But i'm a 6' 3" white male and i'm sure i'd get ridiculed

Can anyone here with dreadlocks just give a bried outline of how long they've had dreads, how much care you've needed to give them and if they've in any way shape or form changed your life

Cheers  :smirk:

Six feet 48 inches? Now that is something to write home about.

I've thought about getting dreads, but the downside is that if you want to get rid of them, you have to cut it all off. I like my long hair as is, and don't want to take the risk of having shitty dreads and having to cut them off.

I thaught that but apprently you don't need to cut them off to get rid of them, you can cut off a portion and comb them out (takes a while)

i've had mine for about a year and a half... made them (well, two friends did) by backcombing, and using a bit of bay-rum soap, and then for the first month or so, used a mixture of sea-water and lemon juice, and palm-rolled them a lot. now, i don't really do much - wash my hair every week, or two (with dr. bronners soap), and when i'm sitting around stoned, roll any little loose hairs up and tuck them into the roots.

i really like them, personally. :rasta:

I grew dreadlocks during my sophomore year of high school. My junior year of high school, I removed them by cutting nearly all of my hair off (I was left with around three-quarters of an inch). Before I grew dreadlocks, I had hair past my shoulders.

My hair, once again, is now shoulder-length, and I've considered growing a new set of dreadlocks, but it was really tough for me to have short hair, and it's inevitable that I'll want to cut my dreadlocks off again. Although I am a white female, my hair tends to quickly form natural dreadlocks, so I might let them form simply out of convenience, even knowing I'll eventually cut them off. It takes me fifteen minutes to comb through my hair after every shower, even though I use conditioner.

If you don't feel the need to change hairstyles often, I recommend you get dreadlocks. A nice set of dreadlocks is damn attractive.

there is a white dude that's about 6'2" around here and i see him all the time in the grocery store.  he has dreads that reach his lower back and i don't see any reason why anyone would ridicule him.

if you want dreads... go for it.

I'm 6'1 - 6'2

I'm going for dreads myself.......I LOVE my long hair - Love running my fingers through it.. (As feminine as that sounds)

BUT I want the dreads, easier to maintain and actually look good..

P.s.
I'm going for natural ones - I'm not using any of the wax or other crap untill I KNOW I can't do it any other way.

According to Prizoner#1 dreadlocks will improve my chances of getting top bunk at the Shroomery free living and food quarters.

Oh the choices we must make. :crazy2:
