All the spiritual teachings are making too much sense
    #21099530 -

It's like, I can't pretend I don't get it anymore. It is time for me to start acting on what I know now, which basically just means growing up and moving my focus away from myself and onto the LORD of Hosts.

I am here now. It's scary to see that like, this is all that there is. I mean, my personal story, that broadcast of familiar thought patterns, has no more meaning or relevance than whatever meaning or relevance I choose to give it. Its like I suddenly realized I am the director of the movie of my life and yet I dont know how to use this power yet.

Don't worry, stick around in that state, eyes open (looking around, not lost in books ) and something to do will absolutely, positively, 100% present itself before long. Only if you're lost in books you won't notice it.

So assuming you've actually hit the state you allege to in the OP, can you see that all gods and rituals and stuff, they all lead to this very same state and realization, or are you still clinging to just your one little path alone?

IMO as long as one feels the need to cling to one single path alone, one is not quite there yet. The tighter the clinging, the more emotional discomfort at saying yes, they're all equal, the farther away one is from the center, where all things are equidistant, all paths are equally valid.

Once you're truly free in the now, you'll see that it doesn't matter if you bob heads like the Hebrews, bow with the Muslims, chant with the Hare Krishnas, dance and trip and juggle fire with the psytrance festival riders, it all has the same undertone of the same OMMMMM running straight through it. In one place it's expressed as one thing, in another as another, but their common source is what the whole ritual is all about. If you're there, welcome and enjoy. If not, don't worry, we all get there eventually, all illusions are temporary

You've been repeating this stuff endlessly for as long as I've known you here.  Each time you say NOW you "get it" but it seems like nothing ever really sticks.

IMO the problem is in the beliefs but that's your choice.

However this post is just a repeat of all your others imo but that's what's considered spiritual here.

How do you plan on implementing this?
I think if you really believe this you should do something that puts your basic needs or daily comforts at risk and let the hand play out.

And by this I'm suggesting to give yourself to an idea that may permit hard times if you follow it.

It's not that nothing sticks, it's that the whole thing doesn't stick all at once. Adyashanti gave a talk about this. Essentially what happens is, every time I have a satori moment, I get all excited. Sometimes I come and post here, full of joy and insight. But then I wake up the next day and the rush and euphoria of revelation is gone, and it is back to the daily grind. Then I get discouraged and come make a miserable post. That's just the nature of the beast.

I wouldn't say nothing sticks though, large portions of my ego have fallen away in the past couple of years. Things really are turning around for me, and I feel like a much more complete person than I was two years ago. Am I all the way enlightened? I would definitely say no. But that doesnt mean nothing sticks.

Dude just keep hitting Satori after Satori. It's like an onion. Each time you hit Satori another layer falls away. Hit it enough times you'll get to the centre. You can get there faster if you want to. Selfless service is key.

Some form of service. I am not quite sure what yet. I find that when I try to do things and gain worldly things for myself, my heart feels troubled. But when I put my attention on serving others, a self luminous peace arises.

Unfortunately I have a lot of old habits that are all 100% selfish in nature. I am one of the most selfish persons you will ever meet. Thats why I think a lifestyle change would suit me well. I want to re-invent myself and stop being all about me and my own needs. I am open to ideas on how to go about this. Even the idea of sex isn't that important to me anymore.

practicing generosity in the form of donating to charities is a very accessible way of shifting into more of a service oriented lifestyle and mindset. even if you don't have much money, say you were going to buy something for yourself that you realize is not really a need, you could opt to instead donate the equivalent amount of money to a cause that speaks to you deeply. and of course there's also volunteer opportunities, though that can vary based on where you live and what's available. i think volunteering with like-minded people who are interested in spirituality is probably the best approach, as this doubles as a form of also deepening your sense of spiritual community. perhaps the church you attend has something that speaks to you that way?

a simple and very accessible way to shift to a more selfless attitude with your spiritual practice is to first dedicate any spiritual technique you do, such as meditation, to the enlightenment and well-being of all living beings. so before you meditate, or whatever your practice is, take some time to cultivate a wish that you can benefit all beings with your practice, and with your life. meditate on love and compassion - there's many great meditations for this. but basically try to shift your attitude about spiritual practice from one of seeking your own benefit and liberation to instead the attitude of universal benefit and liberation

also, don't be hard on yourself. self-love (by which i don't mean being self centred or overly self conscious) is very important. i would say you should have as much love and compassion for yourself as for others. learn to laugh at yourself, with yourself, being very light-hearted in your spiritual pursuit. smile from your heart towards all that life manifests within you and around you

I think you have to be selfish first and foremost.  Once you understand everything you do is for your own gratification, like you serving others to offer yourself to The Lord, you can extend the goodness you feel from being selfish to others.  You only want to serve others because you want to feel good about serving others, and there's nothing wrong with that.  I don't think you can properly serve others in the sense you're referring to until you serve yourself, and at least for me a part of that is understanding I am selfish and everything I do is because I want to do it.  I don't do anything anymore unless it's in my best interest.

I think a setting change can do you so much good.  Moving away from my family and friends was the best thing for me.  I think people that have been with you for a lot of your life box you in and keep you from evolving into who you want to be or who you truly are.

This is the best advice I can give you I think.  Find a job away from where you know, get a place and spend time alone and get to know yourself.

Another direction I think you should follow is to forgive yourself always and forgive others when you think they've done you wrong, always.  I believe Jesus' last teaching before he gave himself to his Father was, "forgive them for they know not what they do."  I'm not a Christian but I think this is some of the purest wisdom ever uttered.

I hope you find your way of service and it brings you peace.

This works well, with some notes on the side:

If you feel that you're incomplete, that you're doing it to get something out of the universe, OTHER than the sheer pleasure of doing it, then IMO it'll turn out to be draining. Do it as long as you feel pleasure doing it, and if someone is unresponsive, vindictive, bitter, to the point where they take the pleasure out of your good deeds, then simply say good day, and walk away.

This does require in-the-moment presence. How do you feel about helping this person? If awesome, then cool, keep doing it. If they're starting to be an asshole, don't give yourself texts and stories about sacrifice. Simply know it's not your place to help there any longer, and go find other opportunities to assist elsewhere. At least that's how I like to do it, and it works pretty well most of the time. Great practice for staying mindful and connected.

But generally, identify why you're looking to help the person. Because you feel needy and unworthy of receiving from the universe, or because you have received, are grateful and so there's nothing else to do but give and share? Focus on this second version, know that this is what delivers, not the first one, that comes from need and fear.

Quote:

What do you want to be about, in the future? Describe the feeling, the energy. Stay away from words from the Bible, use your own. Non-denominational. What would you like to express more in your life?

My own ideas you've heard a few times before, less text and verbal info, more actual life, with the other senses. You can cook, eat, massage, jump, hop, do a barrel roll, but put it out there. If you're just taking in words and giving out words, that's IMO not a full use of your body and mind as a human. Self-aware primates can do so much more

The whole point is to be selfless. Yes you can be selfless and serve yourself, the two are not mutually exclusive. You can also be selfish while serving others. You can be selfless and serve others, you can be selfish and serve yourself.

Here's a real good text on the nuances and differences between these various types of selfless/selfish service:
Liao Fan's Third Lesson

The aim is to get out of the way of God. You dissolve into God and become a conduit for Divine Energy. In such a case it is not you who is doing the work. The greatness is not from you but it is the glory of God itself. God can choose any channel to carry out such work, be glad and grateful God chose you.

The feeling is the judge, jury, executioner of the service. If you "selflessly serve" but there is pride in your action, you choose to feel pride in your action thinking "it was Me who did it" then there is no room for God and no room for good. So that's one kind of false goodness. You feed the thirsty not because you want to be the one to feed the thirsty but BECAUSE they are thirsty. Your child takes a shit all over the floor, you don't wipe that shit up all over the floor because you love wiping shit off the floor, you wipe it because there is shit on the floor and it needs to be wiped off.

When you do this there is a natural dissolution of the ego. It takes no ego to pull it off. The action is carried out in mental silence. There is no karma, neither good nor bad. It's a dissolution. Of course you will have a righteous work to your name. That's what your name IS. Your "name" is all the actions you have ever carried out to begin with. But the key is that it's done in silence. With no I to carry out the action, there is no self involved. Thus "selfless". That's when you get to feel the presence of the greater Self, the infinite. It's for this joy of feeling that Self that is the motivator. Selfish righteousness. Nuff said.
