THAI LIPA YAI: WBS 2 QUART GRAIN SLURRY TRIAL #1:
UNCASED SUBSTRATE

THAI LIPA YAI (TESTED CLONE UNCASED):

TUB 1 YIELD: TOTAL 450g 17.9 oz
1st: 240 grams 8.5 oz
2nd: 70 grams 2.5oz
3rd: 59g 2oz
4th: 81g 2.9oz

Substrate Ratio Per Tub:

1:4.5 Ratio Spawn:substrate
  • 2 Quarts of WBS grain slurry spawn
  • 9 Quarts Volume: 3/4 Brick Coir/ 1 Quarts Verm/ 1 cups gypsum
  • 1.5" Sub Depth

TUB 1 YIELD: TOTAL 128 g 4.5 oz
1st: 73g
2nd: 32g
3rd: 23g

13 days from spawn to harvest
]

2nd Flush:

3rd Flush:

FULL PROCEDURE:

GRAIN WAS PREPPED USING FOOMAN'S GRAIN TEK IN 2 HOURS

MADE 40 QUARTS WBS GRAIN JARS FROM 1 PF JAR SLURRY (THAI CLONE FOR A TEST RUN BELOW)

MIXED UP 1 SMALL BRICKS COIR, 2 QUARTS VERM, 1 CUP GYPSUM, 5 QUARTS WATER.  EXPANDED THE COIR WITH HOT WATER

DUMPED IN THE DRY VERM AND MIXED IT ALL UP WITH THE COIR. THEN POURED THE GYPSUM THAT WAS MIXED IN WITH 4 CUPS OF THE WARM WATER ON TOP OF THE VERM COIR MIX. THEN MIXED IT ALL UP.

PUT IT IN TURKEY TINS IN THE OVEN FOR 2.5 HOURS. INNER CORE TEMP WAS BROUGHT TO 170 THEN SET FOR 2 HOURS AT THAT TEMP.

ONCE COOL, FLIPPED THE TURKEY TIN UPSIDE DOWN IN MY PRE LINED TUB.
I TOOK A WIDE MOUTH QUART JAR THAT I RETROFITTED A BLADE ASSEMBLY TO THE LID. I PRESSURE COOKED 3/4 QUART OF WATER AND THE BLADE ASSEMBLY. ONCE COOL, I USED A SHMUVBOX FOR CLEAN WORK AND TOOK THE LID OFF 1 COLONIZED QUART. I POURED HALF OF THE 3/4TH QUART OF WATER INTO THAT COLONIZED QUART AND QUICKLY PUT THE METAL BLADE ON IT. I THEN USED A DRILL BIT ON THE END OF THE BLENDER TO BLEND UP THE JAR. I THEN DID THE SAME THING ON THE 2ND COLONIZED QUART OF GRAIN. I POURED THE REST OF THE WATER INTO THE 2ND QUART, THEN PUT THE SAME LID ON THE 2ND QUART JAR. THEN BLENDED IT WITH THE DRILL BIT. I POURED IT ALL INTO THE SUBSTRATE AND MIXED IT IN THOROUGHLY WITH THE PASTEURIZED SUBSTRATE WITH GLOVES ON.(I DIDN'T TAKE PICS SO IM SUBSTITUTING SOME I HAVE THAT ILLUSTRATE THIS)

BLEND WASN'T QUITE THIS SOUPY BUT DID LOOK SOMEWHAT LIKE THIS.

THE QUART LID IS LIKE THIS.

NOTES:
Dry yield wasn't anything special just normal. 73 grams. the substrate depth was only about 1.5" thick with no casing. 13 days from spawn to harvest. 23 days from clone to fruit. lighting speed! dunked for a 2nd flush. I plan on attempting this with a 5 tub uncased and 5 tub cased test next to get a wider range of results. The speed goal was met, yield was fair and the grow was extremely easy. I need to do some grow room tweaks to get it dialed in properly. But other than that I plan to try this same 2 Quart slurry with a 3" sub depth and cased tubs. This was an extremely fun experiment. I plan to take it to the next level in the next few months. I'm fairly confident this is repeatable and will get past 3 flushes. I am also confident that the contam ratio won't be any different than any other method I have used. I'd put my money on it. The only obstervation that I believe would cause an issue is if you use larger size grain like Rye berry or Oats. The size of the inner uncolonized grain ends up being too much exposure for contams to set in unless you don't blend the grain as much. The smaller millet or wbs grain doesn't quite get pulverized as much so the grain itself isn't as exposed. In addition, I believe that the drill bit blender wasn't as powerful as my oster is. So it did not break up the grain as much as it would have had I used the oster blender. I think using the hand drill on the oster wide mouth blade attachment is ideal for this method.

nice. im going to try slurrying directly from blended grain and pouring it into sterile quart grain jars. like the cake but using the wbs next. although id advise to use the drill with the blade assembly as that won't pulverize the grain exposing as much of the inside.

As long as it's being used to inoculate a sterilised jar I don't see pulverised grains being too big of a problem.

yes i agree. i was very doubtful the grain slurries would work without contamination. 3 tubs i did previously with really low spawn ratios did't contam either. but i only dunked one of them for a 2nd flush. this last ratio is much better and worked out well. so i plan on building from there. i think the tub will make it 3 flushes at the minimum. my next 10 tub run will be 3" sub depth once i have this setup dialed in perfectly. its almost there. i made some adjustments and im waiting for them to pan out now.

thanks. i plan to broaden the horizons in the near future lol..i love the speed of it. 2nd to none. im going to tweak a few things and get it working properly for a decent yield. i may end up doing one extra quart of colonized grain(unslurried) but dumped in at spawning.

I got a cake (ms tho) that I used to test some LC and some grains from said that should all be ready simultaneously. I was thinking of slurrying the cake and using it with the grains. Should be uber fast with plenty o nutes for the fruits

I'll be using grain slurry to inoculate some of my bottle subs as soon as a few plates and grain jars colonise. I just bought a bunch of tall 1/2 pints. I figure about 2 table spoons of grain spawn in a 1/2 pint containing around 140 ml of water should be good for a set of 7 bottle subs to colonise pretty quickly.

remember. after you pour the slurry into your quarts. close the lid, shake it up for 20 seconds each jar to mix it in. don't worry after you set it on the shelf to colonize, it will look like pooling water till the next day and then by evening day 2 it will explode with growth. you do not want to shake the quart jars until they are fully colonized. if you want to test for contams prior to spawning. you can shake the jars 24 hours before spawning and make sure they recover nicely prior to spawning.(TV suggested this) although, i don't have any more contams than a regular tub side by side. seems lately everyone thinks its a contam fest. but i get consistent flushes past 3 everytime with little to no contaminaton before 3rd flush. it all works the same way to me. i try every method and they all work fine. im more interested in this one because its fascinating to me with the speed of the expansion. its limitless and im trying to narrow down the variables for using the slurried grain directly to bulk. its taken a few years to get to this point, but im almost there! im more excited about the GS2G TRANSFER(GRAIN SLURRY TO GRAIN TRANSFER)
additionally, if your worried about too much water, it won't hurt to use a little less water than 1/2 pint pf jar to 1 pint water. I believe you can use 1/2 pint pf jar to 1/2-3/4 pint water. although i haven't tried it directly, it would probably colonize half the jars i normally do. 20-25 jars. i can usually do 50 with each pf jar. you could also use less slurry per jar. id advise reading TV's slurry in a hurry tek as he explains the transfer very well.

3 CURRENT SLURRY TYPES:
1) Pf Jar to Grain Slurry(pf jar blended and poured into grain jars)
2) GS2G Transfer(Grain Slurry to Grain jar transfer): wbs grain jar blended and poured into other grain jars.
3) WBS Grain Jar slurried to substrate directly: wbs colonized quart jars blended and poured into substrates and fruited.

I also believe the grain slurry directly to substrate is a better option than a pf cake. its higher volume and the speed is consistent with the results i want.

No I was gonna spawn the slurry with the grains when I spawn. But I do have a bunch of other cakes I could do that with. Might toss one in the fridge for P2G later

Ok final 7 tub updated. All 4 cased tubs fruited from spawn to fruit in 12 days. All uncased tubs fruited from spawn to fruit in 13 days. The casings were very thing for this test run at 1/4-1/2" which were substrates used as casing like fahtsters method. ill keep posting results and show everyone that this is consistent, repeatable and it works just fine with minimum contams if you follow proper clean and sterile procedures.

Yes! please keep us updated on your results. im going to do this very soon. my weekend project. i have a shit ton of spawn to play with.
and by the way, im still waiting on this damn ape spawn lol.

everytime i g2g after a 2nd gen the
APE are slow as molasses. i need to try to slurry some APE next.

its good practice to pc a fork you plan to use!

If I have something loosing vigour I like to transfer (grain, wedge, LC,) to a plate with very low nutes. Around 1% max. Then after I transfer to a richer plate between 3-4%. That usually wakes it up gets it hungry.

Beautiful Eatu!  So you're liking that grain layer method?  The fruits do seem smaller than you usually get but there looks to be more..

yes faht. i just need to make the sub depth thicker and the casing thicker on the next trial. i did this specifically to dial in my setup so i just mixed up a big batch and divided it evenly between the tubs. i didn't plan well so i didn't have more than 1/4-1/2" of casing sub depth. ill do it right next time when im not rushed for the holidays when family is in town.
