Went out yesterday to the northern Oregon coast. Scored about 50 wet oz. of azures and a few cyans less then a mile away. Seems like they are hard to find right now.

Those all look like azures to me. Picking that pin on the right was a waste. It would have grown to ten times its mass at maturity.
At least you found something though. How was the weather there?

The pin on the right was a little small. However I left at least 10 other pins that size or smaller to grow. This was my first decent active find and at first I was a kind of excited. However after picking a couple small ones I found a few large ones and decided to let the other small pins grow. I also made sure to cut every one and leave all the mycelium there to keep growing and tap the caps a few times before picking. Oh yeah the sign is from Canby state park in WA, however I looked and found no actives there. I found the azures near Astoria. The weather was great, sunny with no rain. It looks there will be rain through this weekend though.

Looking Good! A. Muscarias are fruiting like mad at work under the pines and the cyan's are in the shrubs! Warm(well comparitively) rain is due to return this weekend so all hail the Gods of mushrooms and get out there looking! After the frost a while back this is just what the Doctor ordered and we should see a return of many edibles as well as our first good crops of cyans and Stunzii.

hey mr. property owner in coos bay, ever hunt any edibles? does your property support any edibles? if you'd like to find out, shoot me a pm. we can check it out... as far as the azures go, you either have to be extremely lucky, and find some isolated freak fruiting on the coast somewhere not near astoria, or drive all the way up and then get pretty lucky again to find them...but cyans are different. some edibles are not only delicious and edible, but are worth money, to boot. coos bay is a good place for edibles...

If i am not mistaken, bro-ham, there is at least one buyer set up in your town there, on the south side, on the way out on the coast highway... guy by the name of jake. i think he's still doing his thing in coos bay for the fall... matsutake should be up in the right places near you, chanties hover around 2 bucks a pound, right now you could probably get four. more if you sold them to restaurants, inns, and the like... lobsters are often higher than chants. boletes are usually consistently 12/8 NO bugs, number ones being graded very hard (only white pores, inturned margin) sometimes there is a lower grade for nothing... yellowfeet are also an item, as are hedgehogs and trumpets, if you can find em (you may actually have to go further south than coos bay for these.) Hell, if you're determined, you might come across truffles.
i know how to target habitat for these mushrooms, and i know there are tons of marketable edibles coming out of coastal oregon, south more than north...california is just starting to rage... pm me.... the species are... tricholoma magnivelare, hypomyces lactifluorum, cantharellus formosus and cantharellus cibarius var roseocanus, boletus edulis, craterellus tubaeformis, hydnum repandum and umbilicatum... what about those cyans and libs tho?

Are the azures as good as far south as Florence? I live in Eugene, and if anyone from here wants to plan a trip to the coast, I'd love to come along. Amanita foraging would be fun too, I've picked them many times up in Alaska. Yendor

When you say P'Hook do you mean phishhook.com? I use to post there once in awhile but haven't been around there much lately. I have alot more fun and learn more around these parts.
