Are there any azure look-a-likes on the oregon coast? I found a patch about this time last year and they looked like azure but I don't think they bruised blue, The caps were almost a ps. cyanescen color in the middle turning a yellowish color towards the margin & up to 3-4 inches in diameter. The stems were gleaming white and really thin. Dunes were covered with pine chips??-maybe... And the sporeprints on the caps below the below the bigger mushrooms were a purplish-brown-note spores were wet if that makes any differance in color. Thanx for your help.

Actually I found some on the East coast, The look-a-likes that is. Thats pretty fucked up, kind of teaches you a lesson about how dangerous mushrooms can be! They looked JUST like Azures.

Obviously they werent Azures they didn't bruise blue so I didn't take a spore print. I just brought it back for my brother to see and we sat there and said wow! And then we said we better be carefull. Makes you think twice . Makes you want to get a microscope. It looked identical to any picture I'd ever seen . Silky white stalk, carmel colored cap, just no bluing. There are so many mushrooms that I haven't come close to identifying. But seriously, thank my cows horse for that bluing reaction cause we'd all be fucked with out it.

hmmmm.... i certainly don't have a degree or anything, and i'm visiting oregon for the first time, so, take this for what it's worth: i just got back from astoria yesterday. it was a fuckin blast. the only thing that stopped my harvest was a sore back (or maybe it was the transformation of the landscape, and the fleeting flutters in my stomach, MAYBE it was all those damn helicopters, who knows) so, listen. while i was hunting my prescious azures, i noticed the occasional agaricus looking guy with a ring, all white, spaced gills, etc. many little caramel colored marasmius species, a few blewits (seriously, there were blewits down in the middle of the clumps of grass, right in there with the azures...) i also noticed something that looked like a hebeloma or something, and a couple of inocybes....but NOTHING that even remotely resembled azurescens, except for azurescens, which stains so readily that you couldn't possibly mistake it for anything else...i mean, it was bruise city...the key is to get out into the dunes, on the side of the levee that has some wind protection, and find a depressed area. the various large animals that like to sleeep in the area will have opened some paths (as have i) that you can wander through until you see the first onein the open.. then its simply a matter of opening the clusters of grass, slowly and methodically, to finds all it's friends, believe me- every one has a big family....you kinda have to dig fer em, but a patch is just that -A PATCH, i mean a mf-in grip, dog.... i have enough for all of oregon to get off, and there're literally hundreds of pounds to be picked.......good luck. if it don't blue, it might KILL YOU, so be careful....peace

I would be cautious if they don't blue. Give it some time though, different shrooms will blue slower. Joshua
