Eugene, Oregon hunters-where should I start?
    #1986798 - 10/07/03 02:48 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Anyone who lives in or around Eugene know a good place to start hunting, I was thinking some good places might be all the fields in North Eugene, going towards Coburg or maybe some spots along the McKenzie and Willamette. Anyone have some for sure score areas?

Asking for specific hunting locations is against the rules. If you give any out, make sure they're general locations.

There are no "for sure score areas". Areas that produced in the past will often produce more in the future, but they will also often stop producing at some point.

The best way to find mushrooms is to learn what habitat they grow in, then find areas with that habitat. You will find information on habitat for each mushroom described in detail in the FAQ. Also, almost every book gives information on habitat.

Happy mushrooming!

Start outside, I seem to find more mushrooms outdoors than indoors.

I assume you are asking where to find active ones VS edible?  It would be a good idea to be clear on that
Best bet now that the rain has arrived (at least here in Portland area) is to be very observant when walking in parks and along streets.  Watch for bark mulched or better yet wood ship mulched areas under bushes, that sort of thing (mainly talking Cyan here).
Stunzii are probably more common on bark mulch than Cyan - I have found them growing in wild numbers in the landscaping of a Target store for example.  They seem to like it colder though, I don't expect them to be up for several weeks yet.
