....but you guys can KEEP your WBS!! Popcorn is the only way to go! I cant seem to keep anything clean enough for WBS. I ALWAYS get trich with it. PC it for 2 hours, and i still get a contam Let it sit for 2 weeks after PC, still gets trich in the incubator. I say fuck it! These EQ half pints are only 4 days old with mycelium solution. I should be spawning by the end of the weekend. Popcorn rocks. (aahh, i feel better now)

someone left some popcorn to germinate for 12 days and got nothing. however they only had popcorn for 11 jars and the last one was brf/rye four/verm mix and it is 2 or 3 days away from being done. so 10 were discarded and redone as BRF/rye flour mixes, the one corn jar showed germination, but not even dime sized spreads yet.

what type or brand of popcorn specifically should one look for?

birdseed provides ALOT more inoculation points when used as spawn.

I feel about rye like you feel about popcorn.

These are 5 days old just shaken. With one that is 10 days old.

it usually takes up to a week before i even see signs of growth on my grain jars. but then i don't use an incubator.

You know, after I decided to get away from WBS, I tried to find Rye and its NO WHERE to be found here. I mean no where. I checked all the health food store, Whole Foods, everything.....cant find it. I used everyday grocery store brand of popcorn. Soak it in boiled water for 24 hours, then simmer it for 1 hour, then PC it for 1 hour. Im sure the mycelium solution had alot to do with the jars taking off as fast as they did, but even the WBS isnt goin that fist. The TWO jars that arent contamed......yet.

whole foods has rye berries. at least the one in plano, tx does.

and yes rye = uber. with rye you can colonize 2/3 of a quart jar within 10 days of inoculation or germination if you're using a spore syringe.

mushmaster: build yourself an incubator, you can do it for under $20 and it helps so much.
$15 50 watt aquarium heater from walmart
glass juice jug large enough to submerge heater
styrofoam cooler... i got mine for free from behind a pet store. they receive fish in them and then just throw them out.
and i got an upright $3 aquarium thermometer to monitor the temperature.

Do you guy's not shake your jars or something? Both of you have them filled up to the brim!!

If you dont, you should try it sometime, it works wonders.

I use 2 layers of aluminum foil to cover the jars. Sterlize both in the PC, then peel one back to inoc. I shake as soon as I inoculate them. The popcorn stays easy to shake even if you fill the jars and the solution goes everywhere in the jar. Those in the pic havent been shaken other than that first time.

u can cover the jars with foil when u put it in the PC???... doesnt the pressure have to also go inside the jars? wont it break the jars if nothing can go in while in the PC?

its to prevent the water from getting inside the jars through the tyvec or polyfill filter. Unless your using like 100 ply aluminum foil and then formed the aluminum into a container to hold the jar, then weld the jar inside the aluminum, NO! the jars won't break and it won't keep the pressure out.

What do you mean when you say shaking the jars? Just do it anytime while they are incubating?
I've heard of flipping but not shaking.
