Popcorn produces poor yields?!
    #1711787 -

What's all this jibe I hear about popcorn producing shitty yields on it's own unless spawned? If that's true then That really sucks a dick because I can't get rye and popcorn DESTROYS millet for colonization time and cooking ease. Any thoughts would be great.

Popcorn seems fine to me.

This isn't very advanced.

Its not that it wont produce sufficient fruits, its just that spawning is much better.

Popcorn is not ideal for spawning because of it's large size. Millet gives far more innoculation points and will colonize a bulk substrate considerably faster.

Sorry i guess it's not that advanced, it's just that most people post all their popcorn stuff in here even though it's easy as shit.

there's a hidden assumption there, that one is using equal VOLUME of popcorn versus millet. in reality one can easily compensate for the size difference by simply using a bit more popcorn as spawn. then popcorn is every bit as fast and in truth is faster than millet. and the added popcorn means more food so that's a win-win situation.
we're seeing pinset on popcorn in just 24 days from inoculation with the argentina strain.
and fully colonized quarts in a week flat, from spores.
and it yields just fine cased.

In any event, it sounds like poor yields from popcorn are more a matter of opinion than anything else. That's good because i love popcorn.

Hippie, where are you getting those spores from. I got some B+ and AFR on popcorn, and it has been four days with no germination yet. I am not worried or anything, but those super-fast colonization times sure sounds nice. How much spore solution are you putting in each quart?

I believe Hippie3 uses 2cc's per jar. 4 days to germination isn't bad, if you really want to speed shit up you have to do some G2G transfers. If you soak popcorn 2 days, cook 1 hour and then PC for an hour and use tyvek lid filters, you are guaranteed 2weeks to 100% unless you are using some slow ass mushies (mazatapec etc.).

Well, the popcorn showed some spots of germination on the B+ just now. It is harder to see it than on BRF. My buddy used polyfill lids. In the previous post were I said I, I meant my friend. He lets me come over and help him sometimes. So in the incubator right now he has 6 PF jars of B+ and AFR. He also has 3 popcorn jars of B+ and AFR. He wanted to do a comparison on the two. Just about all of the jars have germinated.

Nice. Make sure to shake them up so you get good innoculation points, thats a key to fast colonization. Lots of innoc points.

He will probably do that tonight or as soon as they are at about 10%, and then again at 70% or so.

if someone wouldn't mind would you please explain step by step how to colonize a popcorn jar?

as a side question, using more cc's = faster colonization?

(please excuse my laziness)
