Poll: How rich are "The Rich"?

So how wealthy does someone have to be to "rich".
This will be based on wealth rather than income, and is based on total value of all cash and assets including house(s), car(s), etc...

Way to base it on wealth rather than income!
I think another defining line of sorts that fits into this analysis somewhere is...
Do you make your wealth by working, or do you make your wealth by usury(lending money, collecting off the work off others.)
So far, the poll shows agreement. 100 mil. is the amount of wealth you can hold before you cross the line into the 'rich'.
The rich cry out 'expliotation' if they get taxed so the country can build a school, hospital or road.
How exploited of an existence is it if you've got 100 mil?
Should the people care more about hospitals, highways and schools, or should they care about 100+ millionaires?
I think the answer is easy. I'm disappionted the question even has to be asked.

As much as I hate to agree with him, I think Al Gore said it best when he referred to the "top 10%."

WASHINGTON -- Labor Day and a nine-year peak in worker layoffs helped focus attention on a report that compensation for America's top corporate brass is running out of control -- now 531 times the pay of the average worker.
Not only did CEO pay rise a stratospheric 571 percent from 1990 to 2000, the liberally oriented Institute for Policy Studies and United for a Fair Economy said in its report, "Executive Excess 2001," chief executive compensation continued to soar last year even while many of the same executives were firing workers by the thousands and corporate stocks lost 10 percent of their value.
Business Week's recent survey of the top 365 firms show average CEO pay is now $13.1 million.

Of the 100 largest economies in the world, 51 are corporations; only 49 are countries (based on a comparison of corporate sales and country GDPs).
The Top 200 corporations' sales are growing at a faster rate than overall global economic activity. Between 1983 and 1999, their combined sales grew from the equivalent of 25.0 percent to 27.5 percent of World GDP.
The Top 200 corporations' combined sales are bigger than the combined economies of all countries minus the biggest 10.
The Top 200s' combined sales are 18 times the size of the combined annual income of the 1.2 billion people (24 percent of the total world population) living in ''severe'' poverty.
While the sales of the Top 200 are the equivalent of 27.5 percent of world economic activity, they employ only 0.78 percent of the world's workforce.
Between 1983 and 1999, the profits of the Top 200 firms grew 362.4 percent, while the number of people they employ grew by only 14.4 percent.
A full 5 percent of the Top 200s' combined workforce is employed by Wal-Mart, a company notorious for union-busting and widespread use of part-time workers to avoid paying benefits. The discount retail giant is the top private employer in the world, with 1,140,000 workers, more than twice as many as No. 2, DaimlerChrysler, which employs 466,938.
U.S. corporations dominate the Top 200, with 82 slots (41 percent of the total). Japanese firms are second, with only 41 slots.
Of the U.S. corporations on the list, 44 did not pay the full standard 35 percent federal corpo-rate tax rate during the period 1996-1998. Seven of the firms actually paid less than zero in federal income taxes in 1998 (because of rebates). These include: Texaco, Chevron, PepsiCo, Enron, Worldcom, McKesson and the world's biggest corporationGeneral Motors. 10. Between 1983 and 1999, the share of total sales of the Top 200 made up by service sector corporations increased from 33.8 percent to 46.7 percent. Gains were particularly evident in financial services and telecommunications sectors, in which most countries have pursued deregulation.

The rich cry out 'expliotation' if they get taxed so the country can build a school, hospital or road.
It is not exploitation to be taxed in order for the government to carry out necessary functions. It is exploitation if you are excessively taxed and your money is distributed to freeloaders with less initiative than you.
How exploited of an existence is it if you've got 100 mil?
If you have most of it taken away in taxes and given to people who did nothing to earn it....that is a very exploited existence.

Wow. Some people think $100,000 -$1 million is rich. $100,000 is one modest house with a few acres. $500,000 is just enough for an older couple to retire with a reasonable level of comfort.

Your sarcasm is noted. However, my heart does bleed for anybody who has their wealth taken away by force and given to other people. Why should my hard earned money go to pay for people who have too many kids that they can't support and for people who don't feel like working hard?

The robin hood mentallity is nice and its a great story which all works out well in the story but it simply does not belong in government. Government handouts are what have destroyed the lower class.
Consumption tax is the way to go.

Basically you pay tax only on what you buy not what you make. So if you make 50,000 a year and spend 50,000 you pay tax accordingly. And if you make 10 million and only spend 10,000 you would pay less. Its more complicated but it is a good plan. Graduated tax is ridiculous.

So in other words, a rich guy who lives modestly gets taxed modestly, whereas the rappers you see on MTV Cribs get taxed up the wazoo?

You got it.

Maybe, just as long as needs aren't taxed, like food, clothing shelter, education and transportation.

If the rate is reasonable, all but food should be taxed. Think about it, a lower class family spends 100 grand on a house Bill Gates spends millions and as a result pays a bunch. Same for clothes and cars.

Sales taxes are state, county and city.
Consumption would be federal. You can call it a sales tax. (you say po-tay-toe)
