Nader climbing in the polls
    #2403353 - 03/04/04 05:29 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Nader Update 4-15-04

Nader climbs up 1% in the polls! UP to 7%!

The candidacy of Ralph Nader looms as a potentially lethal threat to Democratic hopes of regaining the White House: With Mr. Nader in the race, Mr. Bush leads Mr. Kerry by 46 percent to 38 percent, with Mr. Nader drawing 7 percent of the votes

Nader is starting off to a very good start. Even with the hate rumors that he spoiled the last election being blasted all over the media he is still doing excellent in the polls.

AP Poll: Bush, Kerry tied in presidential race, Nader at 6 percent
WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer
  Thursday, March 4, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(03-04) 12:45 PST WASHINGTON (AP) --

In the first poll since John Kerry locked up the Democratic nomination, Kerry and President Bush are tied while independent Ralph Nader has captured enough support to affect the outcome, validating Democrats' fears.

The Republican incumbent had the backing of 46 percent, Kerry 45 percent and Nader, the 2000 Green Party candidate who entered the race last month, was at 6 percent in the survey conducted for The Associated Press by Ipsos-Public Affairs.

.....more at the link above
some random quotes...In the poll, Nader was most likely to get the backing of young adults, independents and maybe a GOP voter.

Republican Virgil Ahlberg of Apison, Tenn., said he is seriously considering a vote for Nader.

"Bush has come across as a little more aggressive and warlike than I like," he said. "I like Ralph Nader being in the race. I like his practicality and taking people to task for things they promise to do, things that aren't being addressed."

Don't hold it against him. Bush would have won anyway.

Judge Walton agrees with Sarah Brady and former President Clinton's appointees -- that the Second Amendment is not a right of the individual American citizen. This should give pause to those who believe Bush must be reelected if only because of judicial appointments.

Alot of members at my gun club voted for bush in 2000 cause bush said he supported the right to bear arms, it proved a mistake, bush's words and his actions did'nt match, he is anti-2nd amendment. Now many gun owners are very upset with bush, and also consider bush a threat to freedom because of the patriot act. They want someone else, and its not kerry cause they would never vote dem, its nader. Nader is not anti-2nd amendment, even if he is pro gun control. So take at least 10% off the bush results!

Mr. Nader supports the restoration of civil liberties, repeal of the Patriot Act, and an end to secret detentions, arrests without charges, no access to attorneys and the use of secret ?evidence,? military tribunals for civilians, non-combatant status and the shredding of ?probable cause? determinations.

there wont be anymore libbies if bush wins..which will be the case if the nader vote effectively adds 10% to bush's total (or even 2% for that matter)...if you want to become a libbie..you better do it now..before bush wins...

STOP THE PRO-NADER RHETORIC. ultimately, he cost gore the election. yes, perhaps gore could have done something to overcome it, but im sure gore did everything he could do to win, why wouldnt he? Nader on the other hand, made a concious decision which took votes away from gore. its a pluralistic system, DEAL WITH IT, the rules are in place and you gotta deal with them.

From the new york times:
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F40915F73C580C778EDDAB0894DC404482

Quote:

News analysis debunks Ralph Nader's claim that votes for him for president will not be at expense of Democratic nominee; recalls close margins in key states in 2000, when 45 percent of Nader voters said they would otherwise have voted for Al Gore, 27 percent mentioned George W Bush and rest said they would not have voted; map highlighting New Hampshire and Florida, where Nader's votes totaled more than Bush margin (M)

And why don't the democrats learn from the 2000 election and push for and IRV election? realistically, what do they have to lose?

I disagree, here's why:

http://www.votenader.org/why_ralph/index.php?cid=3

Quote:

Did Ralph cost Al Gore the election in 2000?
No.

Al Gore won the election in 2000.

George W. Bush cost Al Gore the election.

No one is entitled to votes, they must be earned.

To say someone is a "spoiler" is to relegate all third-party and independent candidates to second class citizenship. American does not belong to two parties.

The Constitution does not mention parties.

This country had a rich history of third parties.

George W. Bush?s recount strategy in Florida cost Gore the election.

The deceptive butterfly ballot, which Democratic officials approved, cost Al Gore the election.

Katherine Harris-style purging of tens of thousands of non ex-felons from the voter roles cost the election.

A 5-4 U.S. Supreme Court stop of the recount cost Gore the election. (See Jeffrey Toobin?s book Too Close to Call).

Playing the "what if" game, Gore cost Gore the election in Tennessee, Arkansas, and each of the presidential debates.

Buchanan cost Bush four states (Oregon, Iowa, Wisconsin, and New Mexico).

Except for brief, progressive moments, such as at the convention, which helped his polls, Gore ran the usual, lackluster corporate Democratic campaign.

And they did. They voted for Bush, including more than 250,000 self-identified Democrats in Florida.

Moreover, a Democratic exit poll showed that Ralph?s votes came 25% from Republicans, 38% from Democrats, and the rest were nonvoters who would have only voted for Ralph.

In other words, more than sixty percent of Ralph?s voters would NOT have voted for Gore.

In New Hampshire, exit polls showed that Ralph "took more votes" from Republicans than Democrats, by a 2 to 1 margin.

CNN?s polling data said that if neither Nader nor Buchanan had run, Bush would have beat Gore 48 to 47 percent, with 4 percent who voted not voting.

if someone voted for nader instead of gore, then thats the way the would have rather voted. So what the democrats want is for people not to be able to vote for who they want to, becuse they beleve that they would be forced to vote democrat in that situation. That is immoral, and against the principals of democracy. Personally, i thik nader is a socailist pussy, but the democrats are much worse.
