18 or 20 Gallon SGFC? Trying to Optimizing Perlite (2 Shoebox Fruiting Trays)
    #20865846 -

Figuring out whether to buy an 18 or 20 gallon tub. I'm using two shoebox fruiting trays that are completely filled with hpoo based substrate.

The issue is, the smaller tub does not leave much exposed perlite. The larger tub leaves a decent amount of exposed surface area which would make it easier for the perlite to do its job. The downside to the larger tub would be the two extra gallons of volume that would need humidity.

I can of course elevate the fruiting trays about an inch in both tubs if needed. I'm sure either would be fine, just curious.

Got it, so I'm assuming its not necessary for perlite in the tub SGFC to be exposed? I always thought you needed the surface area exposed for perlite to work best.

since you're using trays the large substrate volume will humidify

I had 3 of these in my 66q sgfc took up most of the perlite.
