So seizing vast stretches of US land to benefit a foreign company isn't big government?  You people are so fucking full of shit.  Republicans aren't about small government, republicans are about greed.  Democrats are also about greed, but have to keep their voters happy in the process.

it's cute the way you make the assumption that they'll simply seize private lands.

They have been in the process for the past several years, its cute that you were ignorant to this.\

That is from 2011, there are a bunch of other articles you can find buy googleing "TransCanada eminent domain"

Private foreign company manipulating our weak politicians to steal land from Americans to sell their product...  Those assholes should be tried for treason.  Anyone that would put $'s over American property owner's rights isn't a patriot....

I love how all the people pro this bill cite jobs and economic factors. Tar Sand oil has a worse return on investment than nearly any other energy source, and the total number of long term jobs for this project (for this country) is laughable. Tar Sands is also dirty as hell, and required massive deforestation to pull off. Solar has dropped 80% in price in the past five years, wind is perfectly viable, as is nuclear, and none have the very real and very costly public health consequences that for some reason always get left out of the energy debate. Pro-oil/gas conservatives bitch about having to pay for people's healthcare, but have no problem essentially poisoning people, and no problem ignoring external costs while touting some conveniently distorted version of classic economics...the hypocrisy is staggering. We have far better options, environmentally, economically, and in terms of public health these days. Why risk it to save a fraction in up front costs only to bear the significant external costs later? All while putting money into the hands of people who have most of the government bought.

What a load of partisan shit.  Be nice if you had some facts to go with the rhetoric.

I'm not going to read a Pub politics thread, because it is like trying to get through a Political Discussion thread but 10x worse.

But has anybody here actually explained how this was a JOBS bill, and not a "stuff more money into the already insanely rich" bill?

Some people are going to get construction and refinery jobs that would otherwise not exist at all (construction) or be filled by Chinese where the oil will be shipped to be refined (refinery jobs). Then there will be the ancillary commerce in connection with the project

I could create a more than none job number too with very little effort.  It's like when my mom paid the little boy down the street to rake her leaves for $3/bag.  That kid would come back begging at all times of the year.

Did that create any sort of quantifiable economic impact?  No.  She just paid sub-minimum wage to a kid whose parents thought he was going to his friend's house.

So what you're saying is, you don't have any real sources besides hypotheticals that all the profit wouldn't be getting shipped right back to TransCanada?  Creating very little actual economic benefit?

Who is gonna build this 1200 miles long pipeline crossing right through the US you think?

this will have created a total of 50 jobs, with some of those jobs being only temporary.

source.

Quote:
As we’ve noted in the past, though, most of these jobs are not permanent, as is often the case with construction projects. The State Department found the pipeline would create 35 permanent jobs and 15 temporary jobs once it went into operation.

therefore, the keystone XL pipeline is not a "jobs bill". but, a valid point i've seen raised on this is even if we don't develop it, someone else will find a way to do it.

+It's the construction that will create tons of jobs, not the maintenance and supervision of the pipline itself.

Construction companies build shit and than move on to the next project. Thats how construction works

do you know how eminent domain works? it seems you dont, transcanada has
offered him cash for a permanent ad a temporary easement, he has the
option to negotiate since this pipeline will carry trillions in oil cross
his land

"will create tons of jobs"

I think it will create 2000 jobs for 2-3 years, which is basically not much at all.
