Well you should be. Besides the legalization issue, they are trying to tax our damn munchies! Have you heard of the "twinkie tax"? They are claiming it is a tax to curb obesity. Well who's business is it of theirs (the gov't) who is obese and who is not? They already taxed our cig's and alcohol. The gov't does not want the working poor enjoying anything. Yeah I love veggies, and I eat right...whatever. But when I get stoned all I want is some chips and candy. I should not be taxed for having a "sweet tooth". Neither should you. Twinkie tax 1 Twinkie Tax 2 Twinkie Tax 3

I don't think that it is the twinkies and candy that really get people fat. Its the half dozen fried egg, four thick-cut slices of ham, six ounce steak, four flapjack covered in butter and syrup, toast dipped in butter, coffee and orange juice breakfast that they have everyday. But if you were to charge a tax on those foods, they would be affecting even those who eat these foods responsibly. This is a 'pleasure' or 'vice' tax, like on alcohol, tobacco, and gambling. Relying on the profit made from them interfers with governments ability to responsibly regulate them. It creates an opportunity for coruption, an invitation to deception, and a profit for the blackmarket. These taxes are often the first to be raised when the government (local or federal) needs money. Ironically, bills to expand tobacco taxes cite the fact that a tax raise would get people to quit smoking. They must plan an appropriate rate as not to lose too many smokers, else risk losing money! People go to great lengths to smuggle cigarrettes and alcohol attempting to avoid taxes. Imagine, buying Twinkies from overseas just because the shipping is less than the local tax! jssmthrfcknchrst

Its compusory to vote in Australia and it should be in the US. Its the votes of the narrow minded aging old kiddyfiddling baby boomers that put arseholes like BUSH & HOWARD in office. Its your democratic responsibility/duty to be politicaly aware and vote. I heard that less than 50% of US citizens actually vote.

I voted for the first time last week during our local elections, Labour lost seats all over the country, and it felt good to know that I had some tiny part in that.
-------------------- The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame".
In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience. And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him. "Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.

I am registered and will be voting in the upcoming election. I've registered Green party and encourage everyone here to vote Green on the upcoming Presidential election. In 2000, they almost got enough votes to qualify for federal campaign funds and thats EXACTLY what we need... a third party to show how indifferent Democans and Republicrats are from eachother and fuck upu the two party B/S at least in the debates.

Kinda sounds like what I was eating when I was on the Atkins diet. I lost 20lbs! I was never really fat..I'm 6'1" 220 now..Who would ever think that you would loose weight eating a pound of bacon for breakfast!?

Very well pu, and I couldn't agree more! There is a fundamental, self-corroding, contradiction in concept of a "sin tax." The idea, that you don't like a certain kind of behavior, therefor you are going to tax it, and raise money from it, is a total non-sequitur, and very corrupting.
I also think that "sin taxes" are extremely unfair, and generally penalize the poor. If you tax a pack of cigarettes $2.00, which are addicting as hell to many, that tax doesn't really effect a rich person, but to a poor single parent who can barely feed their kids, that often means less food for the kids, not less cigarettes.
Sin Taxes are just wrong on so many levels!
