The really idiotic thing is that they know the oil will eventually run out, it's a fact. Yet the governments of the world choose to be unprepared for this eventuality.

so they're wasting energy in iceland more than the U.S. is. I find it hard to believe considering how wasteful the U.S. is. They must have air conditioned dog houses up there.

For your information:

87% of all housing in iceland is heated with geothermal energy.
83% of the electricity in the country is generated using hydropower, and the rest with geothermal energy.

So they use environmentally friendly energy production methods to create the energy that they are wasting?

The issue was that they are using more energy per person there than any other country, yet their country isn't particularly cold.

Wasting energy is bad no matter how it is produced, because unless everyone uses clean energy sources, we can't afford the pollution caused by excessive energy use.

That's just fucking stupid. Geothermal energy is just tapping into energy that's already produced in the ground. It's pretty much the most efficient, clean, effective form of energy available. The only drawback is that it can only be used in certain areas.

For the time being, oil is cheap enough for us to continue our lifestyle. As it gets more scarce, the price will rise, and the market will implement more affordable forms of energy.

this is the kind of stuff the gov/media uses to distract people from the big shit...

the oil we get from anwar wont hit the market for 7+ years, and when it does it would only last our economy for 3 months. 3 months. This is pissy green infant shit.

Drilling in AK will not support the US economy in any significant way.... it's a quick profit. Its not long term, it cant be. Hell, by the time that oil hits the streets, we'll be well on our way to a hydrogen-based economy, and GW will be a bad memory.

we could collect all the methane gasses from all of the festering corpses and use that for energy if we keep on electing people like Bush. Wake the fuck up America.

People don't care enough. It'll take a catastrophic event to change anything. People are pretty stupid for the most part. Sad but true. I hope the peak oil thing is real. I hope we run out of it and get plunged into a global depression. I can take care of myself. I'll live in the woods somewhere. The thing is, this administration really doesnt care AT ALL about the big picture. Advancing the economy and growing the American $$$ machine is all well and good.(I AM a capitalist) But, it means nothing if the earth is dead/dying.

ALL IS ONE

Unfortunatly, the majority of the human race hasnt realized that yet.

No one has a solution and I'm no expert on the energy crisis, but anyone can see that drilling in a wildlife refuge is just wrong. I don't really see two ways about it.

I'm sorry Paradigm but I think that is just wishfull thinking. What precident in human history gives you the idea that "the market will implement more affordable forms of energy"? The oil age has only happened once, and will only end once (unless, of course, humans fall back to primitive society for millions of years and allow the oil to build up again).

But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.

yeah that's true, the market won't "implement" anything overnight. Massive changes in energy sources requires much research and development time, and a phasing in the new/out the old.

If the oil ran out today we would be completely and totally fucked.

New technologies should be phased in now while the need is not as great, so that when the oil reserves become critical, a new energy source's archestructure will already be in place.
