Re: No Pigs... ? Why ? [Re: fireworks_god]
    #2076174 -

I still don't get it. I see nothing different between a pig, a dog, a horse, a cow, or a fish. How is the flesh from one animal any more or less clean than that from another. Zahid's tapeworm comment gives me something to think on, but are not all animals able to become infected with parasites that we would rather not consume?

> Take a dog and a cat for example.

I have seen dogs rolling in horse manure, or eating out of the cat litter box. How is this any more clean than a pig? Cats lick themselves clean constantly. Sure the outside of their coats is clean, but where did all that dirt go?

Exactly. Water has just as much chance of being full of bacteria, and water is the holiest thing on this Earth. Full fucking respect to the water!

But yeah. It is all some sort of flesh. The way the animal lives has nothing to do with it. I mean, you buy some of the packaged noodles and like there is like bits of seaweed in it. Is seaweed allowed?

Mushrooms can grow on shit. And they truly are the holiest thing on this Earth (full of water!)
Peace.

A rabbi told me this and makes total sense to me, the reason that pigs are not allowed is because of getting sick with tape worm if not cooked all the way.
Now lets use our imagination and take us back to the time when the law was made.
People were very very very ignorant back then, so the learned people rabbies etc that new better , told them that was the "law of god" and made some cacamania explanation, only way people will stop eating pigs.
In time we receive this info with out questioning the origins and we fallow as dogma and tradition.
And by the way pigs are very clean animals, they all take a crap in just one place dedicated for craping, cows and horses shit all over the place and live in there own shit any farmer will tell you that, they just like to wallow in mud that?s all.

It is some sort of intelligence, wallowing in mud to keep cool. Maybe the churches wanted to keep people away from intelligence.

I get the tapeworm thing, but why did people need to be told it is the will of God to not eat it? Couldn't they understand "Eating this can make you sick"?  :shake:
Peace.

Did not samuel l. jackson and Jhon travolta have this same discussion in pulp fiction?

Please explain what is meant by "dead meat". Seems to me that, unless you are gnawing on the leg of a horrified cow or whatever, that all the meat we eat is "dead".

I thought that Jesus said that it doesn't matter what is put in the mouth, but what comes out? Damn, all these rules and regulations kept by all these religions and the man who set the fewest rules and regulations was Jesus himself. You know, Jesus kicked ass. If he were here today, he would be tripping with us. He wouldn't mind what the people around him were doing as long as they weren't harming others and were living in the light.

Thanks everyone, for the wonderful input!

I'd like to add something also..

I know a Lebanese gentleman who is Orthodox.  He once told me an interesting story:

In older times, the deserts were filled with hardship.

Many people suffered.  They needed a feeling of hope.

There were some, who claimed to have power..  a kind of magic ability.  In front of the people, they would take their Great Staffs and impale them into the sand...  And to everyone's amazement, water would come out from within the sand.  It was a MIRACLE !!

The thing is, it was later determined, that it was a lie.  Pigs skins were burried into the sand, filled with water.
When the staffs struck, the skins split and the water wetted the sand.

Perhaps such "trickery" may have aided in the disgust of pork.

It's not so much that the pigs are dirty in LIFE, but think about pig meat.
Not ham -- ham is cured. So is bacon. We're talkin pork chops here.
It's not red meat.
Now, I haven't actually done an objective test to prove it or anything, but I BELIEVE pork rots faster than red meat such as cows.
Maybe, if the jews had ham, they would've been allowed to eat it.. but ham wasn't around back then, ham was a mainly northern european thing i believe..

The thing is, they now have the abillity of eating fully healthy and disease-free pork products. What is the reason that they can't eat it now?
Peace.

I was under the impression pork was non kosher because pigs traditionally were kept to eat scraps.

Oh and dont chickens generally contract salmonella from squalid living conditions?
