So you dropped it into unsterilized water? you think if i took a bottle of bottled water dropped in some equal (is that what you used?) that might work? sounds interesting. and less time consuming. currently my cousins friend has a potato broith that he uses.. then uses a sterile syringe to innoculate the substrate. I like the simplicity and convenience of the bottled water. does anyone know where we can find out about the levels of bacteria and other particles in bottled water.. to see which one would be safest and might not get contaminated

I wonder if this sweetener would be a good substitute for honey/malt in growing myc from spores.

He did use some sterility...H2O2..1/4 of a cup should be more than plenty to reduce bacteria and contams in the water. The water is VERY cloudy with now.

An equal amount of honey and molasses + a little H202, also really kicks arse. I am attempting to use this tek to rescue some ecuador prints which somehow got contaminated. This would be brilliant if it works on contaminated spores. The mycelium is growing well in the jar. I just have to wait and see if it colonises the mason jar without problems.

I believe this technique wouldn't work at all for contaminated spores because the contams, if they can grow on the liquid, would quickly spread throughout.

AFAIK,H202 will kill the spores as well as the contaminants

Honey will kill peroxide just as well as the molases will.
