do you mean 10% pure hydrogen peroxide, or %10 store bought 3% water\h2o2 solution? i'm pretty sure %10 pure would be a bit excessive.

That's a great idea. How about puttingh H2O2 into the substrare? Or directly into the fruiting cake?------------------ I'm a sloth

I mean the store bought kind that has 3% in it. I'm already using it on my casing to fight off cobweb mold. It works very well.

For MYCELIUM syringes, that would be fine. BUT NOT SPORE SYRINGES. H2o2 Will damage or kill the spores, even if you dilute it. I hope you haven't already done this. H2o2 doesn't effect mycelium much at all, but is extremely harmful to spores

Well, I'll have to say vivid is right. But, it seems I've never heard of anyone ever trying H2O2 in spore syringes. It would interesting to try some H2O2 in one syringe just to see what happens. Anyways, if your haveing problems in keeping your syringes for the long trem, try storing them in the refrigerater.------------------ "I think of myself as an intelligent, sensitive human being with the soul of a clown which always forces me to blow it at the most important moments." WOW, thanks for the advice!!! No, I haven't already made they syringes. But when I do I'll be sure not to use the H2o2 in the spore syringes.I highly appreciate you telling me this:-) I knew that it worked for mycelium syringes, that why I asked if it would work for spores. Thanks a million!

so using h202 in a spore syringe would be bad very bad hmmmm well that sucks b/c I was going to do it also... What about putting it in your humidifier to keep the air clean, would it come out w/ the mist and help w/ cobweb mold?

I don't understand what you mean by using your humidifier. ITs not hard at all to create a clean, contaminant-free syringe. Just fill a jar with distilled water, pressure cook it, slip it in your glove box, or flow hood, scrape a print off into the water(after its cooled of course), and shake it up. Then use a sterile syringe and suck the contents into it. I haven't had any problems, you just gotta be careful. Good luck.vivid [This message has been edited by vivid (edited January 07, 2000).]

H2O2 kills spores, all spores, that is why it is used in substrates and mycelial syringes. It is less effective on myceliums, even mold myceliums, so you want to prevent the mold spores from germinating in the first place.Homemade syringes work best if used immediately. They often have low levels of contamination that will grow and eventually destroy the syringe contents. Quick use allows the mushroom mycelium to over grow contaminates before they can get established in the watery environment of the syringe. Only make enough spore solution that you can use at any one time. Prints can remain viable and clean for years if kept in a dry, cold, dark place. Homemade syringes should not be stored unless absolutely sterile conditions have been maintained during the whole process. If short term storage is necessary, store in the refrigerator to slow growth of any undesirable organisms. This is of course precautionary, homemade syringes can be made clean, but that tends to be the exception.

I've seen no mention of this anywhere yet so will speak up, What would be wrong with taking a cap and using it to create a spore print in the bottom of a sterilized jar out of your cooker? Add your sterilized water and shake it up and presto, you can then fill numerous syringes! Keep it sealed in the jar and in the fridge and use as needed? Sound good? I thought so!

Odin, you might be forgetting that that the top of the cap cap may contain many little nasties that you don't want in your spore syringe, this is the reason that some people suggest taking a short term spore print and throwing it away, because even the initial spores dropped may also have contam spores on them, after that the spores dropped will be very clean.....

Odin 13..that is the technique that I have been using for a while now and I have never had any contaminated spore syringes but I DO presterilize my syringes in tin foil in the pressure cooker and I sterilize the jar that I put the cap in as well as a little bottle of water that get sterilized.... After the cap makes a print, I take out the cap...put in the sterilized water and take the syringe and scrape the print off the bottom of the jar and then suck up the sollution into the syringe...Never had a problem yet!!
