Quart jar grain/water ratio

My friend was originally using 1/3 cup water to 2/3 cup birdseed (as per DH's birdseed TEK) with pint jars. My friend had such good luck with pints the last time, that he wanted to try quart jars... well my friend cant seem to get the ratio right! There is either too much grain in the jar and the water content is off (too wet), or the quart jar is hardly being utilized. Anyone out there have a recipe for my friend?

QUART jar:
250 ml birdseed
130 ml water

PINT jar:
140 ml birdseed
80 ml water

My friend already new the standard ration from The Mushroom Cultivator... he was just wondering what amounts (preferably in cups) people out there are using sucessfully with quart jars full of WBS. My friend was hoping he wouldnt have to buy a huge graduated cylinder. hehehe

Simmer the seed for 30 minutes then fill the jars as far as you want. Since your adding the water to the seed before hand you can do this. Just be sure to leave room to shake the jars.

i just soak mine in a gallon jar for 12 hours. drain off all the way utill there is not any drips from the strainer. and then i load 3/4 way full.
