also i use less water in my pf jars. maybe the stalling was too much water. ive had it happen when i mix this mix.

24 half pint jars:

12 cups verm
6 cups brf
6 cups water

that extra cup of water throws my mc off sometimes and i get stalling.

slight adjustment,

5 cups or 5.5 cups water. what i tend to do is mix it all in a big bowl and use a hand blender to get a nice even mix. if it looks like its sticking together too much i used too much water.

so initially ill pour in 4 cups water and mix the entire mix with a hand mixer, and then the last cup or cup and a half i do by eye so that the mix looks perfect. ill pour a little in, blend all the way through. then pour a little more in if necessary. here is a close up picture.

also, remember, im using these as master clone jars that i use to grain to grain transfer to wbs quart jars. my intention and purpose is to store these in the fridge for over a year to keep as masters. this is why i lower the moisture content in the pj jar mix. i also do inoculation with around 1/4 to 1/3 of the entire syringe in each pf jar. the lower water is to account for the extra water going into the jar.

Update: Here are the injected pf jars 4 days later after a multispore inoculation in open air. the spores were taken off a 7 year old clone recently from a 2nd flush. the print was scraped into a distilled water wide mouth half pint that had been pced for 30 mins at 15 psi. i used a Shmuvbox for the clean work and its 100% contam free using a 5 year old filter in the shmuv. still working great.

old clone in link below and an old multispore grow from 09. also i had a really nice year by year documentation on this clone on another site but i can't find it anymore. if i find it i will post.

the prints were taken from this thread. the last picture post i had in the thread.
Burma Prints

Burma Multispore 2009

this is also very good info about rehydrating your flush below.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/9849845#9849845

but what i do is different than most. i don't use a casing and i deplete the substrate where it reduces in size. ill then spray the hell out of the surface with high pressure water from a sink sprayer. then dunk for 8 to 10 hours. then drain and birth. im manually rehydrating the subs. it flushes way faster. turnover is quicker and you get a fast speedy cycle going. i think of it like a sponge squeezed out, then you rehydrate the sponge again with water.

ive been to fields that are flooded 2' but the areas where the water was down and there were patties exposed had big fatties flushing all over them. that field would massively flood. but when it dried up a bit it would explode with pans and cubes.

when this gets further along ill take pictures to show how the mycelia is growing on the bottom sides and top of the jar evenly from the injection down the sides of the jar.

It seems I read RR talking about letting cakes and subs dry out a little before re-hydrating. Something about the myc rejuvenating better, or tricking it in to "last chance to spread your genes" conditions or something or other.

I think I will try and let mine dry out and rehydrate and see what happens.

you can try it. i usually dunk it right after harvest. plus for rotation sake, i want speed. the quicker i flush out, the faster i fill tubs with new material. continual harvest.

works great, shitake farmers practice this but it's really just cutting back on the misting and letting them lose moisture but not dry up, this rest period will indeed lead to better following flushes but i find it hard to pull off with tubs, they seem to hold enough moisture to just let the second flush come along anyway, i tried with 3 tubs this year they all pinned/fruited on me anyway but when i did it with shallower trays it worked great

lol yeah i guess you can call me dinosaur. i have some extra ports, but i don't even need em really. the foil works geat.

also if you really want proof the shmuvbox works. i updated my user gallery. about 70% of the grows are done from work done in a shmuvbox.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/usergallery.php/gallery/9275/imgpl/5/imgpp/0

hope that is enough proof.

Here is an update a few days later to show how the spore solution was dripped down the sides to the bottom on these tall 1/2 pint jars. you can see the mycelia growing in the bottom as well as the sides. You can almost make out two trails of inoculation points running down the side.

Re: Shmuvbox [Re: eatyualive]

well heres an update. i did 6 multispore strains side by side. golden teacher, f+, r44, burma, thai lipa yai. the spores have been sitting for more than 5 years in syringes that i forgot about. these were from ralphster a long while before whatever happened with him did. but they were contam free after 5 years.

i also did some jars with the foil over the holes, some without. this is the first 4 sample jars i grabbed out of the incubation box. 2 with foil lids, 2 without. you can kinda see in the background the lids without foil. i folded the foil down the middle and wrapped it between the holes so i could use it as my label. im not using any type of filter in the lids, this is purely 1/4" hole drilled with a thin layer of dry verm barrier between pf cake and lid. both jars are getting great GE. you may get different results with foil over an SFD. ive never used filters in pf jars. its not necessary. but i also don't use the metal rings. so to each his own. ive had a really nice old set of poly lids that have a lip around them. i don't see too many of these type any more unfortunately. they are really nice.

these 4 jars are thai lipa yai. they were the 2nd fastest growing strain after tex strain "yellow cap".

here are the two with foil lids

here are the two without foil lids sitting with open air holes.

growth is about the same speed on average. the only difference is the fastest colonizing jar had foil on the lid. also notice how the jar is colonizing from the bottom up. this is how you want to inject those tall pf 1/2 pint jars. yes they work 100% as good as the wide mouth short 1/2 pints. i only use these because that was the only kind available in my area at the time. so i still to this day have the same jars for about 17 years now lol. they last you forever.
these were injected 7/20/14 from the post above with the burma multispore. i have full colonization in multispore pf jars in one jar as of today 8-7-14. full colonization in 19 days. also take note, one whole 10 cc syringe was inoculated into 4 total pf 1/2pint jars to speed up growth. plus one pf jar turns into 10 quarts and so on. so potentially its limitless and you only need a few pf jars per strain.

so the gt only germinated in one jars due to the 5 year old spores. but all the other strains are growing well. the f+ is the slowest of them all but is growing. so the side by side comparison on that strain isn't really eventful. all of the jars are growing about the same speed. the lipa yai are the fastest total overall but its very close with and without the foil. i get wary having open holes and taking the foil off being afraid of contaminaton but so far so good.

more work done in the shmuvbox.

here are some r44 foil

r44 no foil

thai lipa yai no foil

with foil

didn't have a chance to run this one tex because it was a test syringe for a batch of multispore syringe i just made. but it liked no foil on the lid. looking good, the mycelia is reaching out past the top verm layer.

here is a picture of the grain jar lids.

This makes me not laugh so much at all those people that strap a store bought hepa on top of a tote lol.

I still would feel better about it with an actual hepa filter.

You can grab a decent sized hepa at lowes for around 50 and buy a very cheap small blower off eBay for $10 bucks, and have complete sterile air instead of a hepa type.

But then you don't get the break down-ability of your system, nevermind.

update: here are the shaken APE jars that were g2ged on 8-6-14. this is one day after a shake

here are the quart jars that were g2ged on 8-8-14. this is 2 days in.

next on the radar is going to be tex strain which i did in a SAB this time and also Thai Lipa Yai and R44 are the 3 fastest colonizers.

Speed:
1) Tex Yellow Cap
2) Thai Lipa Yai
3) R44

here is some work i did in a SAB with the tex strain. It was very questionable. i hit the tip of my syringe during inoculation on the outside of the jar and failed to sterilize. so the mycelia actually ate the green mold really quickly from a little spot that was there. im assuming this is a complete toss out. but just wanted to see if i could use a SAB to minimize the green mold. i guess we shall see if it works.

here is a pic of the SAB loaded up. I had this SAB for years with just cutout holes and recently gave it a 250 horsepower revamp with the pvc attachments. however, im extremely spoiled by the large work area in my 50 gallon lawn bags on my shmuvbox that i was crashing into the lid, the sides. this has to be some of the sloppiest clean work ive ever done. im hoping things work out, although im not optimistic. i ended up breaking off one of the pvc fittings. here is the damage.

i had to fix the SAB but also didn't have enough time to properly allow the sealant to dry before i did the clean work.

Also, I wanted to include these pics below showing the OB veterinary gloves i use in mine. They are 3' long and have a glove shape at the end. They run all the way up your arm and are disposable. you can get these at a veterinary vendor.

http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.html?pgguid=30e07905-7b6a-11d5-a192-00b0d0204ae5&gas=ob%20gloves

i just wanted to include this so that many of you know i do use both methods. i just prefer the shmuv.

i do find two issues with the SAB. This SAB is 28 gallons or 106 liters size. Its very large and bulky. so its not the smallest SAB.
1) the shmuvbox gives me more freedom of movement and there is no hard edges that i bump into and knock things over.
2) with the added airflow i can begin work in the shmuv much quicker instead of waiting for the lysol to settle in the SAB.
3) i also end up with lysol all over everything which makes things slippery in the SAB. with gloves on i find myself dropping things a little more.

i like that glove idea!  i used to use those yellow dish washing gloves in my SAB, but i got scared that all those "grip crevices" were not getting hit by the iso alcohol.  so i switched to smooth gloves and tyvek sleeves. tyvek not the easiest to hit with iso alcohol either, so those gloves will be the best of both worlds!

what is R44?
