Probably there are not many people here who have tried it, because it's used by professional growers that need hundreds of grain spawn jars.
What exactly would you like to know?

I've tried it with mycobags ,i'll try to sum up the steps...
the sealed mycobag with spawn is brought inside the hepafiltered workspace and the spawngrains are given a soft massage to seperate them
the air is filtered while operating
the scalpel is cleaned with alcohol and put inside the flowhood
the still hot sterilized grain in mycobags is put inside the flowhood and left to cool
the scalpel is cleaned again and the spawnbag is cut open
the grain is loosened and the bag is opened
the spawngrain is carefully gently shaken inside the grainbag
most use spoons or other tools for this but hey it worked fine ,no contam so far so it's fine for me
hoping to put everything in good order without leaving out something...

6Ts Grain to Grain Transfers (G2G)

Once you have learned to prepare sterilized spawn pint or quart jars of bird seed, rye or grains & fully colonize them with mycelium. You can easily propagate a single colonized quart jar of that into about 20 more via G2G transfers. Jars propagated via G2G transfers generally colonize under optimal conditions 100% in 10 to 14 days . Given that, spores do not have to germinate, as what is transferred to freshly prepared jars is active mycelium on fully colonized seed or grains.

The method is to prepare fresh jars, just as you would to inoculate via a spore syringe (soak seed, rinse, drain, load, apply filter disk & PC). Excepting, rather than inoculate the fresh jars with a syringe. You transfer grain from a colonized jar to fresh uncolonized jars. The procedure is simple & only requires common sense, minimal preparation, a long stout clean stainless steel spoon & the cleanest personal hygiene and the smallest uncarpeted working place you can muster.

Doing G2G in a Glove box and/or in front of a flow hood is preferable. But, you can still manage under aseptic conditions, without them, if you are very CAREFULL.

Prepare the smallest cleanest uncarpeted room you have (generally, a bathroom). In the following manner. Clean the room as best you can, getting rid of any dirt, dust, mold or mildew. Remove any cloth hanging anywhere. Spray Lysol on everything, everywhere & wipe it down. If you have any hepa type air filter unit? Place it in the room & run it for at least 1 hour. Running a hepa is preferable, but, if you dont have one. You can usually manage without it

Wipe your fully colonized jar of grain & your fresh jars down, with a clean Lysol sprayed rag. Place those in the room, on the counter top, or whatever flat working surface you intend to use. Wear freshly laundered clean cloths. If you have a face mask  (preferable) wear it. If you have a shower cap to cover your hair (preferable), wear it. Enter the room, spray Lysol around (again) run the hepa for a few minutes (if you have one). Then, turn it off. Spray your hands & arms with Lysol & wipe dry.

Unscrew the lid off the colonized jar. Leave the internal filter disk or filter material in place covering the content. Unscrew the lid on a fresh jar, leaving the internal filter material in place. Remove the filter material from the colonized jar & dig up about ? of content, as it will be colonized into a solid mass. Spoon out 2 table spoons full & transfer them to the uncolonized jar, by lifting it’s filter up & spooning them in. Replace the filter material on the fresh jar IMMEDIATELY after spooning in the colonized material.

Repeat this same process as many times as you have fresh jars to transfer to. Once done. Screw the fresh jars lids on tight. Cover the outside of the lids of the fresh jars with a double layer of alcohol swabbed coffee filters & rubber band them down. Shake each fresh jar to spread the colonized material throughout it. Place your fresh jars in a dry, dark, warm place (preferably between 78 & 84 F), and allow them to colonize in peace & quiet. G2G transfer & shaking jars batters the mycelium. It takes it a day or 3  recuperate from that shock.  There is no need to shake  G2G jars more than once. As, doing so will only slow colonization, rather than speed it up.

EDIT......OOP's, last pic is a grain transfer to a bag of compost, not grain.

My foaf has never had a fully colonized grain or WBS jar that could or would shake. Since the myc has knitted all the seed into a solid mass, in a fully colonized jar. Such as this.

Since it is a solid mass, you have to use a spoon to DIG it out. As was done in the pic below.

The more asetic the conditions in which you do a G2G, the less chance of contamination.

The more colonized grain you transfer into a fresh jar, the quicker it colonizes, as there are that many more contact points, for colonization to begin from. A half teaspoon full will work, a tablespoon full is better & two tablespoons full colonize like a dry grass fire, on a hot windy day.

Agar wedges are great, if you want to go that route. My foaf seldom does. Unless a spore print, or syringe is from an unkown sourse & possibly contaminated. Then, he goes to agar, so-as-to isolate a clean culture. Then, transfer that to a fresh WBS jar. Then, G2G that into more.

a little less grain in those jars and an old
tire and even those would be shakeable.

without room to move within the jar, it will
remain nearly impossible to break up.

g2g's can even be done successfully in the
most septic conditions.....on a kitchen table
using liberal amounts of lysol between
innoculations, pouring out a bit of spawn from
the master to the fresh jars, resealing both
in quick fashion.

Additionaly, you can hedge your bets by injecting
a small amount of h202 into the newly spawned jars
as mentioned in Mycofile's Bulk Neglect Report.

To master this technique is to find yourself, for once,
with TOO MUCH spawn!

More spawn = bigger substrate = bigger fruits = bigger yeilds = ya gotta love it.

I did a g2g w/out too much worry about contams. I broke up the colonized cake into a bowl of h202 and just spooned it into WBS jars. I stuck my arms into an open cooler and did it in there, spray h202 into the jars and on the lids behind the spoonful of myc, and sealed them up.

People arne't bullshitting about filling grain jars half way, I got greedy with a lot of mine and filled them all the way. I'm about to try a lazymofo style bag tek, like take one of my colonized cakes and drop it into a ziplock bag of microwaved WBS. Think that'll work? My PC is out of comission right now.

Q: How many generations can I do g2g transfers before the myc turns to goop? I heard about that being a problem w/ cloning, and I figure this is sort of similar.

I think that 3rd generation is about as far as
you want to go, at least that's the commonly
held belief.

So, i have 5 jars ones almost 20% colonized the others nothing. when doing a g2g transfer do i just mix all the jars OR pressure cook new ones and add the colonized one to those? HELP?

Good luck trying to get an answer from an eight year old thread. I think this must be a new record. Six Tango explains everything in his post. If you can't follow that, then use the search function that you found this with to get more info. Nearly everything, including the more complex aspects of this hobby, can be learned just be searching and never having to post a word.

Yes, it is old, but thread necromancy does have the nice
side-effect of getting all the old lurkers to return to the light.

;0)

FWIW: I find that G2G inoculation to be on of the most
secure approach one can use.  I have had faster colonization
from G2G transfers than from other methods.

Good luck,

JD
