You know why soccer will never be popular in the America (North America to be specific)?

We already have our own sports. Hockey and American football. These sports are made for men. You can die playing these sports. There's danger everywhere.

Then we turn on the TV and we see some guy tripping over a blade of grass and then acting for 5 minutes about how he got tripped by the guy on the other team. Its fucking theatre for pussies.

Whenever I see this shit, all I want to do is show them a video of a guy getting a slap shot in the face, bleeding all over the ice, walking in the dressing room then coming out 5 minutes after with 20 stitches and play the rest of the game.

you must not really be paying attention to sports anymore then

baseball has BEEN on the decline for years now, the average age for a fan is over 50 years old, older than any of the 4 major sports. world series ratings have been lower than ever

nhl is on the upswing, people are watching more and more of it. if espn just had a contract with the NHL, itd jump over baseball pretty quickly

I have to agree with apolly and possibly bassfreak at the same time.

Take for instance America's money-making sport and it's "pasttime", football and baseball.

Both have heavy emphasis on teamwork as opposed to stardom (which I find is basketball's main issue, one man can carry a team more often than not)

Both are about big plays that are part of an even larger strategy (especially football)

And being huge and strong is usually (not always) better than being light and fast.

They almost outlawed it and had to make several rule changes in the 20's I want to say. In any case American football players these days are HUGE. I didn't watch the games but I followed the scores, almost indirectly, when my friends told me about them. Something I don't really care that much about, but hell, IMO soccer is much better than most "American" sports, like football. Soccer is a game that I would actually want to play, like basketball. And the whole international competition deal was pretty exciting.

What I'm really trying to say is, fuck football, and baseball is boring. I hope more people start to like soccer instead, so I won't instantly get bored of conversing with them.

I guess I don't understand what makes a sport "for girls", but I've been down this road a million times and I know it goes nowhere. It's usually, strangely enough, obnoxious hockey fans paving the road though. Hockey is cool, but it's the Tool of the sports world.

Why do so many Americans care about how much players get hurt? So what? A lot of players dive for advantage in the game, some dive to avoid injury. A lot of people put too much importance on risk of injury, like that's entertaining.

This subject as a whole, I couldn't give a fuck less about...
However, the dives I see in soccer/futbol.
It embarrasses me when I see a grown man fall on his own, clutch his knee or whatever, put a fake ass grimace of pain on his face and act and act and act like his leg has been ripped off by heavy machinery.

It is my honest opinion that if they played the game straight up without any of that weak ass acting, that it would catch on a hell of a lot faster here in the US.

Source: whenever soccer comes up here, that's the 1st thing that gets mentioned laughed at... (regardless of the tactical objective it serves, it's really embarrassing to see grown men do that)
