Picking Nettles. Sheer Awesome.

Just wanted to remind everybody, especially the depressed staying-indoors-nothing2do-lonely types, or people with any sort of money problems, or those just looking to eat healthy, that there seem to be truckloads of free, arguably organic, healthy, green fresh nettles growing everywhere, there for the picking.

Compared to spinach, they are free, are more fresh, are IMO more tasty, fun to pick and explore for, generally more minerals and less pesticides to worry about.

I now live in this place that's literally surrounded by them on all sides, so I eat them like a maniac. Had em twice today and some are on the stove right now for dinner.

Here's some benefits, apparently iron, calcium and a bunch of vitamins, so yeah, get some gloves and dig in :biggrin:

I pick them without gloves (nature boy). I like nettles. They are also supposed to help ease allergic reactions - but I dunno for sure. For best taste pick nettles in the spring when they are still under a foot tall :smile:
Do beware though falling naked into a growth of nettles can cause rash and high fever :P

Oh yeah, for best results, with older nettles it's good to pick only the top couple of leaves. Used to pick them barehanded as well, but now I'm having some doubts as to how one gets desensitized to their sting. Whichever way that works, I suspect it would decrease one's sensitivity in general in their fingers, which I kind of need for pencils and brushes and stuff :biggrin:
