I wouldn't have been able to keep in touch with 90% of my family and old friends on the other side of the country if it wasn't for facebook. I'm talking about GOOD friends that I haven't seen for 10-15 years.

I don't just "Bump in" to long lost acquaintances, because I live 3000 miles away. Numerous people from my high school/after high school years, that I thought I had lost all contact with have found me via facebook and we've reconnected that way.

If they were such good friends, why did you not keep in contact with them?

Doesn't sound very close to me.

Have you ever lived life? People get girlfriends, different jobs, move across the country, go to jail, get married.. have kids..... even the best of friends can lose touch for any millions of number of reasons. I'm 32. Shit happens over 15 years.

My BEST friends I kept in close contact with over the years, but good friends from way back in the day you can lose contact with for a million different reasons.

Sounds like some close knit friendships, I know once I get a girlfriend all my friends go right out the window, friend goes to jail? Fuck em

I've had friends drop off the face of the Earth after getting a girlfriend.

I've no idea how I can haze friends with neg ratings and get banned but you can openly flame and bait me in the pub. You belong nowhere. Romp and OTD make exceptions for your ____ and ignorance. Have some respect.

I do. There's people on here that I've known for 10+ years. Some shroomery members I consider my family.

You're questioning my age yet your friends are so immature they get wrapped up and drop off the face of the earth just because they're in a relationship? Seriously might want to think about that for a minute.

I've lost contact with a lot of people over the years, lived in a dozen cities, held 2 dozen jobs, been all over the place. Nothing to miss, the people that matter are all a call or visit away.

You are naive if you think you will always keep in close contact with all your good friends you've had. Phone numbers change, addresses change, people have big unexpected changes in their lives. SHIT HAPPENS. I'm questioning your age because you sound young and don't seem to have much experience in this matter yet say:

Yeah that's great and all, but shit doesn't always work out the way you want. Yes I have had friends drop off the face of the planet after getting in a relationship. That was mostly 10-15 years ago, but it happens. Now many of my friends are getting married and having kids, generally that means they have even LESS time and less contact with their old friends and acquaintances. You don't really know anything about my friends or about me, yet are making these sweeping generalizations. My closest of friends I have mostly kept in contact with even after moving 3000 miles away, and a lot of that is thanks to facebook. But many "good" friends I've had over the years fall away or disappear. Life happens.

I pretty much need a backup for when I lose, break, or misplace my phone. It's very useful in terms of keeping in touch with friends and family as well as coworkers. I don't give a flaming fuck about people's selfies and pictures of random food, and I mainly see a lot of people putting A LOT more effort into making their life look cooler than it is. One of my good friends has literally thousands of selfies, I love her and she is a self-professed narcissist when it comes to shit like this, but...oh my fuck it's ridiculous.

I just logged back on these past few days to do more than reply to messages or send message,  and my newsfeed is swamped with graduation photos of friends of mine graduating with 6 figure degrees, and of course...the engagements. oh my fucking god. it wouldn't be so annoying if someone actually got married and there were weddings actually happening that I could go get drunk at.

Facebook depressed me too, until I started going out and doing my own thing. Then your facebook isn't full of other people doing stuff. It's full of YOU doing stuff through other people's eyes. Which is kindda cool.

Same concept as getting depressed watching porn. You aren't REALLY missing out on anything, you just feel lonely at the moment. Best remedy is going out and getting some tang, then it'll stop mattering. If you can't, you really aren't trying at all. . .

I've been thinking about this a good deal over the years, being a drifter and all. Its impossible to simply describe in words how isolated you can become after years going from place to place, my network started out very large and now its very small.

People come into one's life in droves, its easy to find people to spend time with. Not everyone's going to show up to your funeral though, or your wedding, or pick up the phone when you call, or take a bus 2000 miles to help you through difficult times.
The day I need facebook to find my family is a sad day indeed

No, its not. The equivalent would be a phone book since I've never lost contact with my family.

Your idea of a true friend is someone who stays in the same town until the day they die? Fuck that.
