American Culture Has a Warped View on Nudity * 1
    #19966374 -

I just made a new thread about this topic, because this has been bothering me for quite some  time. I recently started going to a new gym, they have a steam sauna and jacuzzi in the women's and men's locker rooms. The locker rooms are separated by gender. Yet, the gym has this really stupid rule that it is MANDATORY to wear a swimsuit while in the sauna. WHY?!?!?! We are all the same gender in there.

In NO OTHER COUNTRY do they have this stupid rule. I regularly go to Swedish spa's, Finnish spa's, Korean spa's, Japanese spa's, and Turkish spa's, and I have NEVER seen any place require a swimsuit in the sauna or tub.

I complained about this rule, and the staff said it's so other people, particularly children, don't find it "obscene." What the fuck is so "obscene" about a naked person in a bathtub? Especially in a male/female-separated, designated locker room. When any normal person sees a naked person in a bathtub, they aren't thinking about how sexy and fuckable that person is. They are likely avoiding eye contact with that person, and view them as just a regular nude person enjoying a tub.

It just bothers me so damn much. It really bothers me that young American children are never even exposed to normal, adult human bodies, and are only exposed to unhealthy, photoshopped images of human bodies in movies, media, and pornography. Gee, I wonder why so many young people have such fucked up image perception disorders??? I wonder why so many young people view their bodies as abnormal.

On top of that I was reading a Yelp review that some lady left about that gym. Some lady was complaining on there because there were children in the locker room who were looking at her while she was changing. And that she was uncomfortable changing with children staring at her. Like WTF... if you even brought that up as a complaint in European or Asian countries, people would think YOU were the weird person. That there was something wrong with YOU.

American women are just way too reserved about this sort of thing. I change while I'm talking to complete strangers, and walk around naked in the locker rooms. A lot of women, I noticed, crawl away into some corner and hide, or even go into a stall just to change their clothes.

What is your guys' locker-room etiquette like? Do you hide yourself while you change, or do you change out in the open? What do you think of Americans being overly reserved about nudity, do you see it as a good or a bad thing?

I think it's a really bad thing. IMO, when you turn nudity into something WAY BIGGER than it really is, you actually end up sexualizing the body. People begin to see it as a tempting, forbidden, sexualized object and it turns something totally natural into something scandalous and perverted. It creates shame where there shouldn't be shame. This issue about nudity runs so true for public breastfeeding as well.

I agree.

Growing up I was "that naked family." You know how there's always that family of nudists? That was us.

From as early as I can remember I was exposed to naked bodies and I feel like it helped me develop a healthy, natural appreciation for the male and female body.

I always found it shocking how people outside of the family would get so anxious and upset about people seeing their naked bodies, as though their natural form is something to be ashamed of rather than to be admired.

It's illegal to expose yourself to children.

In PUBLIC, yes. But in a locker room or a bathroom, no it is not. All the ethnic spa's that I go to are in America, and everybody, including children, sit in the bathtub and the steam room totally naked. It's seen as a totally normal thing to do.

With the charge of exposing yourself, context is also key. If I am changing, and a child happens to walk in on me, that is not a crime. If I flash some child on the street and run away, that is a crime.

Do you guys make guests strip down naked in your home? Is that why they were upset? If so that's pretty funny.

Yeah its ridiculous how media has turned the human body into something obscene.  The other day I was naked at the beach with my girlfriend, we painted ourselves and danced around while filming, then I decided to fill up the car at the petrol station naked for the hell of it.  Some guy shouted out 'YOU SICK CUNT' and a woman yelled out 'DON'T LOOK' to her kids but she yelled it at me.  Good times.

I'm not one of those people that likes to be nude 24/7 or anything. I don't even sleep in the nude. But when I'm in the locker room, I like to be comfortable. I like to take all my clothes off, look at myself in the mirror for a bit, then walk over to the bathing area totally in the nude (no stupid towel wrapped around me), and then take a bath in the nude, and then dry off and put all my clothes back on freely.

What I don't like to do, is hide in some corner and awkwardly take my clothes off while wrapping a towel around myself so nobody sees me. Has anybody ever tried changing from an outfit into a swimsuit this way? It is the most awkward, fumbling experience ever.

At least the gym can't stop us from being nude while we're changing clothes in the locker rooms. So I take as much of my sweet, sweet time as possible being naked in the locker room as much as I can.

Then I walk back to the mirror, and start twirling my nipples, softly.  Softly, so as not to scare my tender nerves.  I slowly build up to a full on squeeze, sometimes the milk comes out.  As my member becomes swollen, I furiously masturbate whilst staring myself in the eye, just thinking fuck yeah, I'm awesome.  Hopefully there are people watching me, it just makes the orgasm that much easier to reach.

You're right but I just checked and this is only specific to some gyms. That would be pretty awkward if kids were just staring at you while showering though, no?

Yea, the other gyms I went to didn't have an issue with this. LA Fitness had a dry sauna in the women's locker room, and they didn't require swimsuits. But this new gym that I go to is this really overpriced and bougie gym where rich people go to. The crowd is not my scene, but I go there because this is the ultimate place to be for fitness fanatics like me.

Even the janitors that work at that gym are all white people. The only other place that I've been to that had this swimsuit rule was at Burke & Williams spa, which is another outrageously expensive and overpriced spa where bougie white people go to. Which makes me think that this whole covering up business is some uppity American custom.

And for me, it's not really that weird when I see a small kid staring at me when I'm naked. Kids are just naturally curious, and they could be looking at you for a variety of reasons. I had one girl, maybe 4 years old, staring intently at me while I was standing naked in a bathtub at the Korean sauna. She waded up really close to me, and it turned out she just wanted to touch my tattoos.

When I see little kids staring at me while naked at an ethnic sauna, I think that they likely aren't staring at my naked body because they are used to seeing naked bodies, that they are probably just staring at my face and trying to figure out their surroundings.

When I see a little kid staring at me naked at a place where not many people are naked, like this new gym, I assume that they are probably just curious about my body parts because they've never seen it, and I shrug it off. To be honest though I've never seen a little kid staring at me while I'm changing, probably because I'm not looking around at other people while I'm changing. Even when I catch somebody looking, it'll just be for a quick glance or something.

Children are definitely not checking out your body because they think you're sexually appealing, they're simply curious little beings whose minds like to absorb and observe their surroundings.

People are uncomfortable with nudity in lots of parts of the world. I think it has something to do with religion and sexuality. Being nude is often considered an immoral act and I think that stima makes people uncomfortable.

I like being nude though. Sometimes I'll exercise nude or just hang around in the nude. Usually I like to do it privately to avoid unreasonable hassles. I used to live in a bottom floor apartment in the city, and my bedroom had two big windows that everyone could see into. I'd often not feel like putting the blinds down so I could enjoy a little sun light. Nobody ever stooped and stared or complained, not even the catholic school that had it's playground facing my windows.

Nah never forced anyone to get nude

Interestingly enough some people would follow by example. We had a large heated pool and I remember some guests followed my family's example and would strip down and embrace the nudity simply for the novelty of it. I liked these people because they were willing to go out of their comfort zone for new experiences.

Thats awesome. Good for you and your parents for embracing the beauty of nudity. Who doesn't like to walk around naked?
