My friend had this happen too, while inoculating, the jar came open and lost most all of its topping of vermiculite. So far, two weeks later, that jar looks fine. But, it done with mycelium water, not spores, and that usually takes off much faster anyway. Just watch carefully for contams!

happened with 2 jars. one was found contamed during incubation, the other one is birthed and fruiting better than any other cake....its a matter of luck i suppose....

There were some cakes growing without a verm seal, because there wasnt enough vermiculite. They are 100% colonized and of 10 jars only one got contaminated. The mycelium grows REALLY thick on the top and grows up the side of the glass to the lid. Dont know this is normal....
