Not gonna be much of a movement if you ask me.

Hippies had awesome tastes in drugs and music. Real hippies weren't the sterotype people think of. The majority of hippies were intelligent, middle class, clean, young white males. Then it became cool to be a hippie and shit went downhill, bums and addicts started becoming hippies because hippies were kind enough to take them in and care for them. the government started cracking down on psychedelics and the hippies turned to speed freaks and smack junkies for something different to do because they couldn't get their high. Turned into a big mess.

Nope.

I guess it's true that there is subculture expansion everywhere... EDM and Rap is growing true, but there's a large part of society that pay's it no mind. Just like every different subculture.

:shrug: Just a thought I had on MXE. Still think it's relevant that the movement is growing again. Though it's true that in the large scheme of things it doesn't make much of a difference

there are some scary kids out there. I travelled in Arizona with this one hippy who would stare at the freeway and then say he wished everyone on the planet but him were dead. I then told him to have a fun time keeping the nuclear power plants operating. he said he takes care of the whole universe, to which I asked how and told him he was pretty fucking self centered.

The hippies officially died in 1967. There was a ceremony for the death of the hippie. Haight-Ashbury might have been a cool place in the 60s but its not now. And if you are not from that time and place, and you call yourself a hippie, well that means you're a wook.

I'm a longhair. Sometimes walk around barefoot when its inappropriate. Smoke weed do drugs and listen to 60s rock a lot. But I was born in the 80s. I lived in San Francisco for a while. It really disillusioned me. There are no hippies left. that was over a long time ago. There will always be people who associate with hippies just like there will always be some weird Goths or juggalos or whatever. Personally I hear you, OP. I was like you. I think its unrealistic though. Besides, I don't want to be part of the new 'thing'. The hippie culture becoming popular is basically what ruined it in the first place.

My generation exhausts me. Especially when it comes to the new drug culture. Everyone is taking 25i thinking its LSD and thinking their methylone is MDMA. I'm not trying to sound like a drug snob, its just that no one is doing their research and a lot of kids are getting hurt. Ive seen kids doing DMT and salvia while drinking at parties and they go crazy.

So many kids treat taking psychedelics like a game and it pisses me off.

Hahaha yeah they do.
And yeah there is a lot fucked with the new generation (my generation) but we also grew up in a fucked up time. we are one of the first to grow up with high speed internet, allowing us to "see" everything in the world but there is still so much bias and propaganda surrounding it all, so we're all still a little confused. Growing up in such a fucked up world is all the more reason to change it, right?

Good post, except there was a lot of greed, fake drugs, and douchebags in the 60's too. Human emotion isn't a millennial phenomenon.

yea but the popular opinion among young people at that was to fight all that greed and negativity. this generation has come to embrace it. what person who was born in the late 80s or early 90's doesn't wanna make it rain hundred dolla billz on hoes at the club, or have a mansion or watch motherfuckers shooting at each other on tv or in video games? and if we can make money off all that bullshit all the better

There are very few scummy people at smaller festivals, the scumbags generally either tour with bigger bands or go to bigger festivals (especially EDM festivals.)  Biscuits shows are a prime example, lots of cool people and a fair share of assholes ruin it by shitting all over the scene (and the dance floor).

Not personal

IMO  anybody born after 1990  who identifies as a hippy appears  confused and should come up with another labeling for themselfs  , because the only hippies I know of we're from the 60"s and 70"s.

Instead of having  motivational speakers who  innovative society  like Terrecnce McKenna or Tim Leary  did , we have shitty musicians.. Actually now that I think of it , joe rogan has a major impact as well but I wouldn't classify him in the same bowl as the shitty music toilet but alot of people refer too him.

Even if they ate mushrooms , listened to pink Floyd and dressed in trippy clothes , Doesn't make these  kids hippies , unless they're about FREE , peace , love , equality , then that's hippy .
