Jay-Z and Kayne? What about Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Snoop Dogg? They all have amazing classics. There's plenty of other really good songs from plenty of rappers... Raekwon, Canibus... there's some new rappers out there that actually have some potential, like Hopsin and Chris Webby... I think Kendrick Lamar, and Yelawolf are good, and Tech N9ne not to mention associates I think are good... there's some less currently popular ones that are unique and interesting with a different style like Jedi Mind Tricks, Immortal Technique, Ill Bill, all pretty interesting style and lyrics.

Dre had ghostwriters for most of his catalog; Jay Z and Eminem did a lot of writing for him.

He can rap well though

honorable mentions for 'other' top rappers are :

Lil Wayne has been a top name, that doesn't have anything to do with being the best.

i listen to alot of rappers. im not blinded by no hype. eminem has the shit that hits the spot. nah mean? well u dont. he has had like 6 great albums in a row with all songs being hits. atleast from here. his vocal control is pretty great throughout his albums n hes great live.

he was what one could say 'ahead of his time' like many old rappers.

this is a pointless debate. i recognize other good rappers. but your saying that im brainwashed which doesnt make sense. if i like the way his rhymes flow and the way he is more than other rappers that doesnt correlate to brainwashed.

regarding rap god... the amount of different styles in it is massive. thats why it is good. eminem is ridiculously versatile and 'proven'

Kanye is awesome, he's universally regarded as one of the best producers in rap, and he's made a lot of his own great tracks as well.  And I would also say his stuff enjoys more support and respect among good musicians in other genres than Eminem ever has or will.  Lou Reed, for example, wrote a glowing review of Yeezus, which is a more complex, thoroughly-produced, and original album than anything Eminem has done since his first couple CDs.  It's kind of like comparing apples and oranges, though, because lyrically Kanye has only occasionally been really good, and often he barely focuses on that aspect of the music.  He'll never battle Eminem for cleverest rhymes, nor does he try to.  Doesn't mean he isn't more talented. :yesnod:

Rap is in a great place right now.  Better than it has been in years IMO.  Fave release lately was Run The Jewels, which was a free album.

Kanye west is good, hes not bad, but he really is not on the level of slim (i dont know why this is a question), he could be a better audio producer yeah, but rapping/mc'ing/lyricism/versatility/vocal control/subject matter: FUCK NO hahahah, but dr. dre has put out better shit than kanye producing, ive listened to kanyes old shit, his new shit, and eminems first album 'infinite(not sure who produced it)' alone has better beats then anything ive heard from kanye, its wordplay absolutely shits on anything kanye west has done. kanye isn't versatile, he sounds almost the same on every track. this is why its almost a pointless discussion, you said couple cd's. your goingto tell me that kanye west has 1 album better then 'infinite, slim shady, marshal mathers, the eminem show' ?  no, he really doesnt compare.

eminems style is ridiculously versatile, kanye west isnt. is this even up for discussion? and every feature eminems been on, hes outdone the other person. most notoriously was jay-z's renegade, eminem puts out. and then more recently forever, eminem shits on everyone featured. case and point if eminem and kanye west went against eachother talking shit, guess who would come on top? if eminem and kanye west went to public area and freestyle for 10 minutes straight, guess who would come out on top? if eminem and kanye west were on the same song, guess who would come out on top? (forever has kanye west, eminem outdid his ass, even talked shit about everyone on the track,  "He can make them look like Bozos

while i agree that eminem is on another level than kanye west, like a whole fucking nother level with flow, lyricism, creativity, subject matter, freestyle ability.

i disagree regarding nas and kendrick
nas has one great album, illmatic, after that, he started falling off. with select songs here and there. he just has one style. literally, like he has one style and one voice.

where as kendrick lamar, is already breaching versatility at its finest. (ive listened to maybe 30 kendrick lamar songs, and hundreds of nas songs, and kendrick lamar has shown much more versatility and creative aspects to his music than nas has ever attempted, kendrick could one day be in the top 5, nas is more like a top 10. so im goingto throw my hat in with kendrick, being he's already outdone nas in the versatile realm, he has a better future.

when i say versatile, i mean the guy has songswhere he sounds like an entirely different rapper, with a different face, an style. like you wouldn't recognize him unless someone said that is kendrick at times. even without him changing his voice, he approaches the track so different in general every time. i cant say the same for nas. he is dope in illmatic with select great songs here and there. ether is a classic.

funny thing is i use to take your stance and i hated kendrick... i hated drake also, some of his shit is annoying for sure, but his good shit is good fuckin shit, ... till i realize the dudes goddam brilliant, his style is being copied by everyone else, an he was the first one with that voice n style, he is rather great lyrically, n he has a pussy voice and makes it work, not only that he is canadien and doesnt come from a gangster back round, he proved his worth through other means... he has a r&b rap feel,  (sometimes he is annoying) but he usually does better than everyone on a track he is featured with. if drake and lil wayne didnt roll together, an drake rolled with nas, you would think differently of drake.


also, everyone should get this planted into there heads... lil wayne isnt bad, he goes into the studio with No paper, nothing but a beat he hears, n produces all the lyrics in his head, like jay-z, and then he goes on the track.

lil wayne DOES NOT WRITE, its not a freestyle, but there is skill involved in this that you cannot comprehend unless you do it yourself, some of his shit is golden, especially for a non-written artist( his non-autotune shit) i agree with that alot of it isnt my type.. but gotta love haters who can't come near the talent the guy actually does has..

It wasn't a complete list. I just listed the people who were at the front of my mind. I know, I left out so many amazing artists. And that's the point. :smile: There are so many fucking artists that destroy Eminem.
