Re: Agaricus - Coprinopsis - Psilocybe - Schizophyllum - Coprinellus - Lentinula - Gravy - Dead [Re: ghiajake]

I was reading that Schizophyllum commune can cause brain abscesses and may also be a cause for Aspergilloma... not quite a cordycep, but still has the potential to kill its host.

There are several, ironically one of the most common is Schizophyllum commune.

By 'take out' you mean infect nasal passageway of people with severely diminished immune systems, right?

Hmmm... Exactly:douchewink:

:woah: Wow!! Now every time I find this fungus I'll breath shallow through my nose, run away quickly, trying not too bash shins against sharp sticks, oh and dodge the wasp nests of course... That should do it:shrug:

No!  You should do the opposite.

Collect it and boil and filter to make mushroom stock for soups.

Make the hunter become the hunted.  In this case it's a fair fight, the mushroom can fight back.  Most people are out there collecting defenseless chaneterelles and Psilocybe, not much sport in that.

Schizophyllum commune is the most common mushroom sold in the markets in Central America because it doesn't rot in a day or 2 like all of the other mushrooms.
