Ultrasonic not working? Check the filter!
    #19603152 -

So I've been putting my GH together, using an old ultrasonic I had laying around. I've spent the last week trying to get the RH up and I couldn't get it over 75%. I tried running the humidifier through tubing, inside the greenhouse, on timers, off timers, on low, on high, duct taping the intake, the output, with additional aquarium air stones, etc. All to no avail.

I was getting frustrated, after all, everything on the forums said that ultrasonics were ridiculously good at raising RH.

Then I decided to go to the store and buy a cool misty, and just scrap the ultrasonic. While looking at the dismal amount of humidifiers at my local Wal-Mart, I saw the filters sitting there, and remembered that I had thrown the filter away from my ultrasonic some time ago, thinking that 'oh, it's just a filter, the air in my house is pretty clean' (this is when I was using it to actually humidify my room, not for a GH). So I picked up the filters and looked at the box, and it has a diagram of an ultrasonic and it says that the filter is important for the humidifier since it holds the moisture for evaporation.

So I bought a filter, popped it in, and within minutes I was approaching 100% RH. I feel stupid for not realizing this sooner, but I figured someone out there may someday have the same brain fart, so I should make a post to help them out.

TLDR; if your ultrasonic is not working well enough, make sure it A. has a filter, and B. consider replacing it.
