Vicks Ultrasonic Humidifier & Airflow
    #396144 -

Quick simple question...
I'm working on an automated terrarium, and I just got one of these Vicks Ultrasonic Humidifiers... Do these provide air exchange as well as humidity, if I've got a valve regulating the amount of fog they pump into the aquarium? I was thinking about having some rubber tubing running out of the humidifer, into the aquarium through the plexiglass lid, down one side, and across the bottom. Along the bottom stretch of tubing, I was going to punch some equally spaced holes so the fog would be evenly distributed throughout the tray.. Then an exhaust hole with a filter covering it up on the top.. Sound okay?

The only real problem with humidifier set ups is the tubing getting contaminaited. When the humidifier is off, the tubing may start to collect germs and mildew which when the humidifier is turned back on will blow over your setup. Just make sure to keep the tubing rinsed with H2O2.

First if your going to use a sonic humidifier, make sure you get the settings right you can do that a number of ways using timers, 2 liter bottles, valves ect.... If you want further details ask. Secondly it does create air pressure and remember less is better, your better off just cutting the hose (slanted) and ending it as soon as it enters your setup just make sure theres nothing directly under your hose as it will drip, if your set up is sealed properly and you have a hole in the bottom, the co2 will sink and exit. All depends on how much air you put in. A little hy peroxide in the water will keep it all clean.

Well, I have a humidity gauge, so if I end the tube directly where it runs into the aquarium, and run it on a timer, I can figure out the interval.. Will that provide enough fresh air though? I only have one tube which is running in, that being the humidity output.. No air pumps or anything else. I'm worried that the amount of time it takes for it to fog up the tank is less than the time it would take to provide adequate air exchange.. Any way to tell, or otherwise, does anybody have any settings that have worked well for them?

buy an aquarium air pump and drill a hole, run the hose, and run it on the same timer as the humidifier.
