What I do with colonized jars I can't birth right now?

What do I do with the jars that are colonized but I can't and don't want to birth right now?

I heard on another post that I could store them in the fridge?

You could leave em in the jars and see how many gazillion smushed and aborted pins you have when you birth...

putting them in the fridge will initiate fruiting. start a casing with them or try experementing with them, or give them to a friend to start. Spread the joy to everybody. I don't think there is any way to store them because the whole jar would have to stop doing everything fruiting and colonizing, sorry not much help but maybe a few ideas to put in your head.

I've stored jars in the fridge for 3 months and birthed them and they we're perfectly normal.

Thanks, but I'm no pro I've just done it before is all. One person has done it for 6 months (Roadkill where are you?) many times with success.

Ok. So, I just put them in the fridge? That's it? Or do I need any special temp/preparation along with that?

put them in a zip lock bag and wrap with black duct tape to keep light out.

my friend once left a fully colonized pf jar in the incubator for over a month. she just unplugged her aquarium heater and left it in the dark, room-temp tupperware. after 6 weeks, or so, she took out the mofo and spawned it. worked fine.

Yes store them in the fridge , but make sure you keep them in the dark , store them in a box that is sealed up so no light can get in .

Keeping them below 40*F should put them into a hybernative state , slowing down the growth process , and preventing fruiting process also , that is why very important to store in the dark . Can keep them in hybernation for months if stored propely .

i would... spawn as much poop as i could find.  :grin: the fridge is a good way of putting a stop on your cakes, but seriously all that time in the fridge could be time spent colinizing bulk.

Hey pontdexter, have u used the invitro tek? I'm curious if u did to know how much you were able to harvest that way. I'm trying that on one cake right now, just to see what it does.

Yeah if you put in the fridge and take out a day or two after then that steep temperature fluctuation will push the mycelium to fruit. How ever if you keep them in the fridge they will do as lil Kush said.
