question about the primary stimuli of primordia formation
    #19253536 -

According to stamets light is a primary stimulus for mushroom formation, but ive also heard that light is secondary. Can someone plz set this good-for-nothin noob straight about this issue once n for all?

Massive FAE (after high CO2 levels during colonization) is the number one pinning trigger. Also huge factors are a slow, steady evaporation of moisture from the surface of the substrate as well as high RH.

That is particularly true for P. cubensis. Because it grows on herbivore dung in tropical places, it doesn't require complex mechanisms like some other mushrooms.
It's life cycle is simple, colonize the dung pile from the inside, and fruit whenever the mycelium reaches the surface. It's always hot and humid where it grows.

That was written 30 years ago and our science has learned a lot since then.

Light is a secondary pinning trigger, but is much more critical after pinning when the mushrooms are developing.  Proper lighting will double or more your final harvest weight.
