Authorities can Internet trace to ping Code reveal location.

Hey guys....I heard from a friend that goes to my school that certain authorites (DEA etc..) have the potentail to discover the location of your computer from simply posting something on the internet. If this is true then can there be Feds snooping around on these forums searching for a cultivator to bust. I mean maybe Im just paranoid but I know they can trace the exact location of your computer if you are hosting an illegal terrorist bomb website or something.... So why would it not be possible to pinpoint the basis of these posts? Can they launch an investigation on your Ping Code and even hack into your e-mail? Then even check incoming mail to your house. AHH Holy shit. Somebody please tell me they dont have the ability to do such a thing. I dont mean to scare anyone I just want to be safe.

It can only be done if they have a tap on the isp that hosts this site or if they have access to the log files. I highly doubt it is a concern.

this is why encrypting your emails are so important.


Im not usre how valid all this is, or if they even really are, but without encrypting your email your mail /could/ be read anywhere along the way...

Well, if they have your IP address they can find out where you live easily. And I am fairly confident you could find out someones IP address through this site. But I dont think talking about stuff on here is warrant enough to raid someones house.

Exactly ^. On the same note, the government doesn't have the time nor the money to bust small time cultivators, it would simply be inefficient. Just think about it, everything takes time and money. If they are searching for a bust, they are looking for cultivators who grow bulk for dealing and making money. They have more important things to do than break down your door and consficate 12 pf tek jars.

Hey now, don't panic...this is nothing new. Yes, it's possible to be traced through your computer activities, it is possible for the government to tap your internet connection just like your phone line....etc. etc.

here in england they've been monitering emails since thatcher. it goes through a puter that scans for key words. they moniter alot of phone calls and the average british person apears on camera 50 times a day or somethin like that.

Isn't spreading the fear that they are watching just as effective as actually monitoring....Reminds of when I was in middleschool and our district started putting these big black cameras with blinking red led on them at the front of the busses to get kids to shut up and stay in their seats...According to the school board only like 1 camera had film in it on any given day, and supposedly it was then rotated to another bus. Just the suggestion that a kid might be taped smoking out on the back of the bus was enoungh to make most of em sit all quite like and be good. I always figuered there was no film in any of those blinky black boxes, or for that matter even cameras!
