Using a straw as a bulk substrate

Hi,
I'm very new to this, I have read up as much as I could in the FAQ's and found it very helpfull. However I still have alot of questions and was hoping I could get some answeres.
I would like to grow a fairly large amount of mushrooms, I would also like not to have to buy a pressure cooker. From what i have read I got the impression taht this would be possible by using straw as a bulk substrate. I would like to know what sort of yield I can obtain from this method and if this method is suitable for only a few different strains of mushroom.

Any help would be appreciated.

straw is pastureized not sterilized so as long as you have a stove and a candy thermometer you're set. for spawn, you can make PF style jars and boil 90 minutes, no need for a pressure cooker. do some searches here for your next steps.

You're good to go. Any kind of p. cubensis will colonize and fruit off of straw. The yeild is big compared to just fruiting pf cakes. Thanks for doing your research first. Just remember to crumble the cakes up really good.

You might want to research hominy if you don't have a Pressure Cooker.

Be sure to mix vermiculite in with the hominy, or it will be too wet.
