I think its awesome, sounds very fragilesqe crossed with downward spiral. people have been bagging reznor because of the new sound on one of the tracks which is like new wave poppy punk but that shouldn't represent the entire album! its just how he's evolved as an artist, he can't be recreating the same stuff over and over.

Yeah, I'm digging it. Reminds me more of the Pretty Hate Machine style.

I listened to it twice on youtube at work, so I didn't pay it full attention at every single moment, but I was thoroughly underwhelmed by it. It has some good bits, like in that funky track on the first half All Time Low, but it's mainly Adrian Belew's Frusciantish guitar part that makes it happen. Copy of A? Came Back Haunted? They are the same generic song and just listen to the drum part in both that probably took him about 30 seconds to devise. Find My Way is a slightly better version of those two songs but it's too little too late, Metallica Death MAgnetic Why in the hell did Trent stop developing the shit out of the rhythm section and its associated textures like he did on pretty much everything up through the Fragile and its remix album????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Ever since Witha Teetha and Dave "screamin' good rock and roll time" Grohl it's been either generic rock-disco beats or even worse utterly generic 16 beat step sequencers on almost everything. It makes me suspect that he relied heavily on sleeper agents working with him on the textures and layering up through Fragile era, just look at the credits for Fragile, there are at least a dozen other producers, included Dave "the Rave" Ogilvie, Danny Lohner, Charlie Clouser, guys like Bill Rieflin, fucking Dr. Dre. Then in the 00's he was all about marketing and making sure people could view the NIN discography on Apple devices at their family reunion. Did you hear The Slip?
That might literally be the most generic thing I've ever heard. I'm fairly certain he released it (for free) just to see if people would eat it up and not realize that it was complete dog shit.
The whole, "I'm not the same angsty person anymore, I've grown up and stuff" explanation for why his music is...different now is a cop out. Just listen to this perfectly sunshine-y track from the last actually GOOD thing he released "Things Falling Apart" and compare it and the rhythm parts and textures/sequencing/production to anything on Hesitation Marks or fucking anything he's released since 2000.
Everything since has been a quick 16 beat step sequence and then on to the generic fuzz box guitar riff and clean vocal part. Tell me I'm not the only one, I mean Trent was the vanguard for pop industrial and he was killing it up through 2000. He should sell off his wife, beg the world for forgiveness, shoot some dope if he has to and pick up where he left off in 2000.
