I girl in the town that I live in was found after being kidnapped for 18 years. She had kids with the guy and everything. The thing was, when I was a kid I spent the night and played just TWO HOUSES down from that house. Sick knowing I was so close to that horror yet had no idea.

All they need to do is let him into general population and he'll be gone in a matter of months. Maybe even weeks.

The reason he plead guilty was because the deal they were offering took the death penalty off the table.

I know this sounds harsh, but how could three adult women not manage to overpower this guy, or find a way out of that house for ten years? He did leave them there when he went to work, or to go shopping or something, didn't he? I'm sure he secured the place, but TEN YEARS is a lot of time to scheme some plan. I'm not saying it was their fault, just saying that sometimes you have no option but to help yourself.

He kept them chained and locked up, and in separate rooms.  He beat the crap out of two of them regularly, one more than the other.  Eventually, especially when kidnapped so young (the oldest one had some type of mental disorder) you sort of give in to captivity, like Stockholm syndrome.  He would sometimes pretend to leave, and if the girls made noise or tried to leave their rooms he'd beat the fuck out of them.  So it becomes a "Is he really gone?" sort of thing.

Apparently this last time he mistakenly left part of the house unsecured, which is what allowed the one girl to get to the front door and scream for help.

so sad..  situations like this have become the norm in the US now.  If you miss the news for 3 days, you know when you go to watch it on the 4th, something terrible most likely happened somewhere in the nation on one of those days.  It's sad that when there's been a "situation" where 2 or 3 people are killed, it doesn't even make national news anymore.
