why didn't i see this thread... best albums of 2013 so far... Camera Obscura - Desire Lines (gets into your head, you have to commit but it's worth it if you're in the mood.)

Deafheaven - Sunbather (immensely awesome Black Metal mixed with... what's that? softer tonality and shit?)

Black Sabbath - 13 (Comeback album!)

Queens of the Stone Age - ... Like Clockwork (nuff said)

not a video BUT A SAMPLER. view at your own spoilage
Zomby - With Love (it's basically like listening to a really really catchy and well composed video game OST in full Dubstep form)

Quadron - Avalanche (it's a more poppy version of their older album, it's good still though. very well produced and composed. very catchy.)

Daft Punk - Random Access Memories (it's funky soul awesomeness is in electro form. it's original and new for the group and so well done, i don't know why people bag on it.)

Kylesa - Ultraviolet (one hell of an innovative statement in Doom. there is some abstract shit out there, but for some plain ole regular DOOM, this has got all the staples of, it's WAY different then even their earlier album which was fucking up the sound. it's now official fucked.)

Akron/Family - Sub Verses (it's wildly unkicked and psychedelic folk, what more do you want? Acid, maybe... weed... but after that, it's all good)

Th!!!er - !!! (the idea is sorta like Poolside's album the year before [also really frikin good] it's not disco however... it's more like Quiet Riot/Dance meets modern electro. it's all in good fun, like Random Access Memories, and that with the fact that this and those other albums are awesomely composed and produced and every song establishes a keen difference in approach and concept.)
YOUTUBE DOESN'T HAVE THIS, TOO BAD. BUY IT OR FIND IT
Alkaline Trio - My Shame Is True (really far out, and abjectly miserable feeling, it's dizzying composed and well, it's quite like My Bloody Valentine got boosted with adrenaline)

Bombino - Nomad (a fun and realllly... foreign stretch through the blues of the deserts of Africa. it's composed like gold, it's just... really different.)

Paramore - Paramore (emotional and riotous. it's indie rock turned to 11)

No Joy - Wait To Pleasure (talk about a chick band. this all girl group is all fucked and stoned and they make really fucked and stoned but beautifully composed Noise-Pop. yerp, Noise Pop. lots of good Noise Pop coming out the the last few years)

watch
Steve Mason - Monkey Minds in the Devil's Time (just a really fucked up album. it's sorta like a story tale mixed with a conceptual avant garde soundscape to accompany it)

James Blake - Overgrown (very personal and acoustic album of basically emotional-feelie pop songs. listen to the lyrics, and you can really appreciate the forray into topics and desires.)

Marnie Stern - The Chronicles of Marnia (Marnie Stern is awesome... this is her third really awesome album, 4th overall... and basically she is a really unique guitar player and composer. nice disjointed rock bits, although THIS particular album is toned down just a bit.)

Parquet Courts - Light Up Gold (Noise rock at it's core. it's basically a bunch of guys rocking out. strictly for fun affair)

Foxygen - We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic (one of the best folk rock albums to come out in a long time. everyone is a compositional masterpiece of Dylanesque proportion.)

Ducktails - The Flower Lane (basically indie pop. really well produced and catchy contemplations.)

The Next Collective - Cover Art (a brand new jazz affair, nuff said... it's awesome)

Matmos - A Marriage Of True Minds (a myriad of different sounds and shapes composed together to make noise as IDM composition. they've been doing it for years and their innovations, no matter how small, never get old)

Fear of Men - Early Fragments (one of the best dream pop albums ive heard ever. ever song is G, and it's all very original lyrical content. also, it's an all girl group. )

Flat Earth Society - 13 (again, but a well deserved application of the year 13 being aforementioned in the title. this is also their 13th album and it has 13 songs of... well, 15... 15 awesome musicians. doing awesome avant garde swing. almost forgot about this one. i am probably missing some obvious ones, i just have been listening to these other albums JUST recently so they are fresh on my mind.)

Majical Cloudz - Impersonator (read below posts, it's noted as awesome, because...)

Boards of Canada - Tomorrow's Harvest (i don't know why i forgot about them either, till last... i heard this album first time myself, when it was stream on their site. perfect album, and a perfect album for BOC)

and even though i've been checking out music of the last two years, that i've missed and have to catch up on too, i obviously won't list them here. can't list anymore anyway, my hands hurt.
(EDIT: i don't know why i forgot about Majikal Clouds; i guess it maybe was cause listening to the album the earlier this week kinda made it float on until i was reminded. just plum forgot, this i probably my top contender for most hard hitting album this year.
PLUS BOC, goddamn. so much awesomeness! )
