Overstock HEPA filter. Double-checking it for flowcab quality and compatability with my blower
    #18550263 -

I'm not exactly a filter expert. The last one I had was a 99.98% efficiency cloth-style HEPA filter so I was sure about it working properly for me.

Got a new filter for a good price (lingering overstock) and am unsure if I should go ahead and build a box around it.

It's this type instead:

Pretty sure I've seen flowcab builds on here before with this type.

24x24", 12" deep.

The info for it:

It says:
"Minimum Efficiency 95"    A tested tag to the side says 96.2
"Micron  .3"  This is what makes me think it will successfully produce bio-sterile air.

"Max WG  .5"  I'm unsure what it means by "Max" WG. Is this the filter's resistance? I picked out my blower based on 1" WG - is my blower too powerful? 800CFM, a little over 400CFM at 1" resistance.

"Airflow (CFM):  1080"  What does this value represent for this filter, particularly my use?

Thanks to those with great filter knowledge for lending me your mind for a moment! :bow2:

The data plate and test sticker are saying if you pressurize the plenum on the back of the filter to .409" of water column, it will flow 1080 cubic feet per minute out the front.  Since the filter is 4 square feet, 1080 divided by 4 is 270 feet per minute(fpm), which is twice or more the flow you want, and it's achieved at a very low static pressure which will make it near impossible to get laminar flow.

That's a high flow filter for clean room use, not particularly well suited for flowhood use.  The thinner HEPA filters generally have a higher resistance and work better for flowhoods.

Thank you again RR, that's exactly what I needed to know!
Although thick, it did seem very sparse internally. Did seem to me like it would pass air very easily which is the main reason I though to post and ask.

Will order one that I know for sure will work.

Have this one for good now anyway, so I may use it and a spare blower from my last build to construct a filter box to run slowly/occasionally keeping its area's air clean. The blower is about half as powerful as my intended one, so who knows!, as it may be about the correct cfm to push 85-110 fpm out of this filter it could create laminar flow or at least output sterile air enough to work by in the middle for simple things. Not that it would help too much as I'll have a proper one soon!

At the very least it's something to run in the lab area before working to clean it out.  Those are used in hospitals and electronic clean room air supply units where you need to supply a large area with clean air.
