Compassion
    #18428392 -

The only thing that separates decent folks from the Rest.
Discuss.
Why everyone ain't got it?
Is it difficult to harbour?
Does it take something else to produce it?
It , IMO, is the only thing that propells interconnection.
One cannot truly love or feel affection for ANYTHING if compassion is not the grass tht covers the field.
Getting it?
Keeping it?
Losing it?
How's it done?

Cheers

Most are compassionate but it tends to be an indoctrination IMO.

Is this indoctrination beneficial to our species?
I deem it so.
Yet so many (98%) don't have an oz of it, traded for selfishness I guess.
is tht beneficial?
Maybe so.

Cheers

Compassion is often generated by ones own experience of suffering.  The greater the suffering the greater the compassion.  Not all but some.

Not when you see who the indoctrinators are. They might cause selfishness out of compassion.

I would perhaps call this legitimate compassion.

This sounds right. I still wouldn't want to cause suffering back in the day when everything was going right. Do you think that if I wanted to cause suffering back in the day that I would still want to after I suffered?

Everyone is different.  I have no idea what you would choose.  For me, I've suffered plenty and I have little desire to cause it due to that.

Same, but would you think that suffering for a psychopath would increase his will to cause suffering or lower it?

Everyone doesn't have it because there are many people who have not had the good fortune of growing up in a loving and safe environment.

If you have lived with it all your life it is one of the most natural things there is.

Show love and care to the people around you and it will create itself.

Very great responses.
LL: could you expound on the selfishness out of compassion thing?
I went to your +1 thread, but I'd beg to differ if you are meaning that by giving compassion to others we are merely asking for it back.
I act with compassion in most cases for my own inner moral reasons, so I feel I've done "well" with my life. Which is selfish to a tee, yet decent.
But I'm not speaking Of asking in return this compassion "for myself"
Here I was more alluding to the case in which all Humana can act with compassion towards each other (whether I'm dead or alive) simply bc it is the truly "humane" thing to do. And I would be pleased if my species were better than they are, yes, but hardly in vanity.
I see people treat others, themselves, and other animals with disrespect and shittiness. I just could see where most people who are compassionate humans would gain joy from seeing everyone not act in these selfish ways. Instead living in interconnectivity and compassion.
But I digress I may have obscured your words and intentions completely.

As for you ice, yes suffering may be the beat all tht grants compassion and the not wanting I cause suffering to others.
Not many really suffer nowadays... As we know.
Yet I have run into one particular instance where  elgalagordo or whatever is quite correct. Those given loving and safe environments can complete the compassion void without suffering.
That's what I take real good parenting to look like and it's rare. Nevertheless it is a breath of fresh air when seen.
I appreciate you fellas.
Cheers.

They are not asking for it in return, they get it automatically by feeding off the victim. You will see it wherever you go if you carefully observe society. There is no compassion in this, only selfishness IMO.

I agree with that as a general
Observation of our culture(s).
I see people gaming/faking compassion for selfish reasons, bc it will "help" them in the afterlife. Or some other fanciful concept with karma or some other further illusion of sanctity.
However I find it hard for genuine compassion to be a thing one can "feed" oneself.
It is more just a congruency to a perspective where it is/seems irrational to show anything else.
This can be wrought in a couple different ways from what I've noted ime thus far.
Cheers

I think humility comes with a state of serenity.
Compassion flows simply and easily in such a state.
That's where I'm trying I be.
No one here "need" learn anything it's simply a discussion.
Admittedly I take myself too seriously at times, such a seriousness allows for discipline in action.  But it's hard on the head. That=time for green tea and a bowl, typically.
Bring peace to the head and most else is easy.
I just don't get how the most are so hard put to find a trail to walk on.

Cheers
