Quick amanita Q!

Yesterday while mowing the lawn i came upon a fairly large mushroom, it was 7 or 8 inches tall(ground to top of cap) it was white, with a very very pale orange to it, and unfortunatly i dont have a picture, but it had bumpy things on top, like every picture of an amanita ive ever seen, are those bumps very distinctive of an amanita, i have no intention of chomping it down , just interested in knowing if it was an amanita, sorry for my vagueness, ill try to find others and take a pic. thanks

The amanita does have white to slightly off white wart remains on the cap. The Fly Amanita (Amanita Muscaria) can range in color from bright red,orange to yellow. The spore print on these is white. BEWARE of the white and tan ones as they are deadly poisonous. Here are some pics of the Fly Amanita which are very abundant where I am this year.

hey thanks, im gonna go look right now, deffinitly not red by any means, time to go mushroom hunting, even though im sure none are of any use i have noticed in my neck of woods there is a hell of a lot of different mushrooms everywhere, fascinating to look at them, and watch there growing patterns.Thanks again.

The don't have to be red. I could send some pics of orange ones if I got off my ass and went hiking through the woods a bit. Could post some various pics of lots of Amanitas a bit later today if you'de like.

Im fairly sure it was a amanita, no need to post the pics, the only thing that was weird about it was there was barely any color, and the place i found it was on a pile of loam, just one 'shroom standing alone.

You have to be very careful, Amanatia Muscaria, when prepared right, won't hurt you. But there are many amanatia's out there that could make you sick or worse. Be careful.

Of course, i have no intention on eating wild mushrooms i know very little on wild mushrooms and by no means would take the chance of dying, but thanks for everyones consideration, i just find mushrooms fascinating in general, outside are about 3 or 4 different strains all completely different, some spongy under the caps, some gills, just fascinating, thanks guys.

gdman420-any good recipes for the Amanatia Muscaria. I know they can have magical propeties and have heard that drying out the top skin and smoking it can have good effects. Is this true?

No,I wouldnt recomend it,I would just start out at a regular doseage of 5-10 grams and work your way up from there depending on what kind of trip you like,but go ahead and eat all of the cap,make sure it is dried in sunlight(this is so that the acids will turn into muscimol)that is what makes you trip,but anyways smoking them will not cause a big effect just some mild trippyness,Also I would order about an ounce of dried amanita caps from bouncingb.com and if your order is over $30 u will get a free gram of 5X extract of salvia div. and this shit is great,it will trip u out more than the muscaria,I would eat the shrooms about 30 minutes before smoking the salvia,this will definitly give u the desired effects. But make sure that u smoke the salvia out of a pipe or water bong and when u smoke it u have to make sure that u try to smoke all of the bowl in about 3 or 4 huge hits,im talkin about inhaling all of the smoke as fast as possible without letting any out do this till the bowl is cashed and u will definitly be mind altered,lol,but anyways,hope this helps,Peaceout!

Anyway, the actives in muscaria can be smoked. You can find out the recipie, I don't know it off the top of my head. Basicly you boil some amanatia caps down untill you ahve a resin, and you can smoke the resin.

Also,i forgot to mention man,i wouldnt even mess with that possible amanita in your yard,they are hard to identify and if u think its a muscaria and it turns out to be a destroying angel or death cap u will be in a whole heep of trouble,i would stay out of the way of home-picked amanita's,i would just stick to the psilocybes if your gona be pickin'!Peace!

Thanks for info and I have some drying out now. The sun is not so warm up here anymore or out its cloudy. can a warm oven with the door cracked open be effective in drying as well? or will this ruin the properties of the muscimol? say an oven set at 150 with the door slightly ajar?

Yah man,i was just reading yesterday how thats an alternative way in drying them out,buy i said it needed to be at a higher temperature tho for them to chemically develope,but anyways,im pretty sure your right,its sumwhere around 150 or 200 degrees f',Good Luck,and u better make sure those are muscaria's,peaceout
ps.i would feel really bad if someone posted that u had accidently aten death caps mistaken for muscaria.

no worries, i plan on just admiring the shrooms in my yard, a) i live in NH, no shrooms, b) muscaria are just cool to look at, as with all the other mushrooms i found around my yard, i dont really even pick them, i just look, maybe check out under the caps and throw them back in the woods, but i assure everyone i wont be ingesting any mushrooms i find, grown cubies on the other hand are a completely different story :smile:

I will be very careful. I have a large amount to pick from all different kinds so I just stick to extremely red ones and nothing orangish or yellowish. Here in Alaska where I am the Aminita is one of the most plentiful mushrooms around. Being raised here I have kinda grown up with them but never tried to take them. I have used them as a fly killer though.
