Here what the CME looked like as it left the sun the other day. The material appears to be radiating from the sun as an expanding circle. This is called a full halo CME, and means it is heading directly toward us. Imagine someone throwing dirt at you... The cloud of dirt would appear to be growing in all directions at it got closer to you.

I posted a thread loaded with up to date data from satellites that can give you a pretty good idea when this CME has reached the ACE spacecraft, which is about a million miles away. Once ACE has been hit, it takes about 20 to 60 minutes for the CME to reach earth and the commencement of magnetic storming.

Here's the ACE telemetry. When the the CME hits, you will see the Bz/Bt jump to around 20 or more, the density to go above 10 and the speed to go over 700.

By the way a CME hit the ACE satellite just past 2200 UTC (6pm est)

The density may not be reading properly, sometimes that sensor shuts down to protect from damage.

The CME should be hitting earth anytime now.
