Trust me, if a lawyers hears about a civil suit, worth a lot of money, that he knows he can win, he will take the case without a retainer. I agree with Pris. She set you back years in your study and cultivation. Some of that you may never be able to replace. Your landlord is responsible for way more than $5k in damages. Call your state's Bar Association and they can direct you to a number of civil trial lawyers that can and may help you with no money up front. Trust me, if you only go for the 5 grand you will regret it for the rest of your life.

Why no link to "real life"?

You can't walk in and make a claim without proving it. Nor will a Judge award airfare to the Philippines to collect a print. It just doesn't work that way in real life.

THe problem, I'm sure, will be to establish the value of the cultures.  You'll need some expert witness most likely, unless you can find some price list off the shelf and convince the judge to just accept that.

oh, so youthat needs the exact same lawsuit in order to validate your beliefs
as opposed to recognizing that the juries in these cases dont always decide a
case as you'd expect

all someone has to do is convince a jury of harm or loss being the fault of the
defendant in order to win a civil case, you know this

i would go with prisoner#1 ... he is right on to it ... get a good laywer and collect your once-in-a-lifetime 500,000 bucks.
She has to compensate:
-the stuff
-your working hours
-your travelling costs
-the working hours it will take to regain the stuff (so once the past and once the future hours)
-the rent for the place you lived in for the weeks after you have been kicked out with no prior warning.
-maybe the would-have-been income from your future buisiness you wanted to do with these cultures
-possibly even some compensation for the emotional distress and degradation you were put in if your laywer is good enough

go for it ... this is big money. Just get a wicked as laywer - that will pay off .. some laywers even work on percentage - so you wouldn't have to pay in advance ... she essentially destroid your life. That's worth some bucks for sure. The family-laywer might just not be the best one for this case.

It seems the landlord admitted to throwing the stuff out and used his "drug lab" as a reason to change the locks and throw him out.

If the landlord states something different in court, they still have to explain why the locks were changed, no notice was given and that the OP could only move out with supervision.

Cultures or no, this is a strong case.
