one wonders why use a straw at all. why not just make a few holes and put the water in them directly ?------------------ Visit http://www.drooldonkey.org Global Psychedelic Community, Forums & Chat, Teks & Tips.

Hey Mycelium5150, A quick question for you. As a newbie I am wondering why you let so many of the shroomies get so mature that the caps are turning up? was it for a super picture?, which this definitely is, or was it for spore prints? or just to get more weight? I am asking because I read everywhere that potency decreases... Thanks for the pictures, they are very encouraging

Thats just the way i like to grow pf's. They dont really seem to lose any potentcy. PLus the pic on pf's web page was actuall y grown while i wasnt home, so i got there a lil late. Hippie, i know you like your poking holes idea, but a straw will still hold more water, unless you poke 10 holes in it.

a straw will not doubt hold more water but i just wonder if it's really needed or better than a few holes. i suspect that holes might be better overall, not because i brought it up, but because the straw would releae all it's water into one point, to diffuse from there. a hole would distribute it's water over a bigger area, with multiple holes doing that even more so. in addition, from other experiments, it seems that pins tend to form at edges and i suspect that holes could trigger extra pins. also holes would allow for better air exchange inthe cake's interior. all very much experimental but worth furher investigation, imo. just because you've always done it that way doesn't mean that is the best way.

is that the only source of water for your cakes, or are you humidifying them also? If you are, w/ a humidifier or a spray bottle?

i think the straw is a better idea in theory, but who know about the real world happenings. the mycecillum should carry the water throughout the cake, so it doesn't matter where it goes in too much. putting it into the center of the cake might prove advantageous because too many surface hole might stunt possible mushroom growth. also, what's the differnce between puting water into holes on the surface and actually dropping water on the cake? either way, if you want to put water into various points on the surface, use multiple straws. they're cheap enough...

what do you think the difference would be from dropping water on a cake and filling up a straw. UHH, lets see, the straw will hold more water, drops on a cake might run off or evaporate? Lets see, where would be the best place to distibute something if you were in the postition to distibute it, uhh, maybe the a cetral location, like the center of a cake. C'mon ppl, put some though into your questions

I'm just curious Mycel, how many flushes do you get off a cake doing this method? It seems like after the cake gets weak, you could add dextrose, and get significant life from the cake.

a problem with the center of the cake is the fact that it is the last place to colonize. holes can be poked closer to the outer edges already colonized. and please explain how releasing it all from 1 central point is better than from several dispersed points. we're not talking about a trucking firm here. additionally, there is no need wait a few days to let the mycellia 'seal' around the hole like a straw. and i've heard several complain that straws are awkward, easily dislodged, etc. scoff all you want but mark my words. within a few months straws will be obsolete as everyone switches to holes. btw, i put plenty of thought into my posts. no need to get yer panties in a bunch, friend.------------------ Visit http://www.drooldonkey.org Global Psychedelic Community, Forums & Chat, Teks & Tips.
