I don't really take issue with Kitties and Titties because I don't see it as a potential dilutant of the existing niche forums. I don't care about the silly, miscellaneous forums. Overall however, this user created nonsense totally messes up the categories in the forum index and it will force people to keep tabs on multiple forums to read about their favorite subjects.

Yea, I reckon it'll get a little better but I still think it's dumb. I wish the more topical user created forums could just be listed as subforums of existing forums or beside them as forums in their own right in the appropriate category. There could be an icon indicating which forums are user created. Maybe the sillier/more personal ones could be categorized separately as miscellaneous.

Science and tech is almost always just tech, don't go into the forums if you don't want to. Add more posts that will interest people to the forums you prefer.

You don't have to follow any forums, dude. I think the space forum is great because I can go there and see a ton of posts about space where if I go into Science & Tech I might see one or two posts about space.

No shit, but I do have to if I want to stay on top of conversation about certain subjects on Shroomery. If the Space forum really turns out to hold water they should make it a subforum of Science & Tech.

If you want to stay on top of the conversations, I don't see why following it is a problem. And they probably will. I don't get your complaint here.

The user created forums are a good way to test out new forum ideas. If they're successful there's no reason they couldn't be made official forums or subforums.

I also would like to implement the ability to combine multiple forums into one for viewing purposes. So you could subscribe to the Science forum and the Space forum and view all the posts as if they were contained in a single forum. So yeah, the user forum functionality isn't finished yet, this is just the start. We'll be taking feedback into consideration and adding additional features so they are more useful and useable. In the meantime, it should be pretty easy to ignore them if you don't like them.

The Shroomery has so many features compared to the average internet forum. In fact I can't think of any other forum that is more user-friendly. That is probably a large reason why I keep coming back.

The user created forums I care about don't show up unless I view the full list for whatever reason. Can I hide individual user created forums easily (from the main forum index?)? And if so how?

To keep the size of the list down, I only have the forums with the most replies listed on the main page.
I expect to get over 100 user forums before too long.

As the number of forums increase, we'll be moving the list to a paged format, as we have for thread listings now.

I can't wait. I wish there were a way to see new forums. I hate just happening upon them when I open the whole forums list. They seem forgotten almost. Wish there were a method to give them more exposure. Maybe building on zappateer's idea for organization but adding categories or something. ANDY WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? My organization senses are urging me to fix it and I can't. :sad:
