I agree.... I think User forums are a bad idea it kind of takes something away from the other part of the Board.... Basically the power to post a topic is power enough to create a little forum in itself... but with that new feature of user forums there may be a whole lot of unwanted crap that might infest this board and in an unwanted way... at least the other forums like off topic and such are modified and kept in line somewhat. This new user forum draws away much power from the participation of the old forums and might make this place not as great... But that is just my opinion and this is not my site.Peace

Although i am being a hypocrite here (i made my own forum..(tryptamines)), I think it is a bad idea as well. Soon there will be more forums than there are posts. (BTW, the reason i made a tryptamine forum is because there arent any anywhere exept the hive and i dont like the lycaeum.)

I thought I'd be able to edit/delete mine, as I'd be moderator. I guess not, yet. Obviously mine is more intended as a joke than to be serious. Sorry, I probably shouldn't have gone outside the bounds of Off-topic.

I have to agree with Captain Jack on this,I think Member Forums are a bad idea,how many of these things are there going to be?How many absurd things are going to get a whole forum about them?I think this will cause problems in the regular boards and while I like Moe as much as the next guy a whole forum for each of his butt cheeks seems a huge waste at best and an example of wear this thing could go.A few jokes like that are funny now but in a few months when there are 50 member forums half of which were made on a drunken/stoned whim concerning the most frivolous topics I think it will be a pain.No offense intended to anyone including Moe but these things seem to be a recipe for disaster.Its not that all the forums I've seen are bad,there are some good ideas,its just that now anyone can start a forum anytime they want and some people are going to go nuts with it. ------------------

While I think the idea is good in itself, but this is crazy. I think the idea of normal shroomery users being able to moderate their own boars is an interesting novelty, but not really useful to the site, and on the other hand, decreases the signal to noise ratio. If you do keep them, they should have to be approved beforehand, and relating to a topic not already discussed. i.e. the forum on gourmet and medicinal mushrooms is right on!

Something else I'd like to add is the fact that I tried to do a search on the board for a certain topic yesterday and it went through every single forum including the user forums. I know I can probably set the search paremeters and cut that down but before I didnt have to. Anyway Im just being lazy!

IMO, the User forums should be completely eradicated (dont tell me how to spell, its a free country). I have a forum but at least its not a joke like most on there...a lot are just social forums instead of Q+A's. Im not against social forums but when theres 20 of them it gets kinda old. I think oOjonahOo has a good idea..have the forums approved by a "shroomery background check" and maybe have a limit on the number that can be at the shroomery... it would be sort of a first come first serve thing, which is better than one person having 8 forums for different body parts (no offense intended). but its getting ridiculous.

I think that you guys are over-reacting a bit. Sure, there was an outburst of new user forums when the feature became available but it hasn't gotten out of hand. On the contrary, it has gotten well within hand. People have calmed down and are beginning to act responsibly about it. All the bs forums that were created were created at least two days ago and people have seemed to get it out of their system.It is the very attitude expressed here that keeps the drugs we love illegal. It's the lack of trust in each other to act responsibly. I think that many of the new forums are a great addition to the Shroomery. It resolves some problems. People who have been here see simular topics such as "Favorite Movies" all the time. There's a new thread like that every month, it seems. If you devote a forum to Media, it would take these threads out of OTD and into a more appropriate location. I think it is too early to say whether or not this new idea is detremental to the Shroomery. I say we give it a month and see what happens. I think that it should be kept exactly as it is, except for the tool bar on the bottom. if people don't want to have to sift through the new forums, they shouldn't have to. Keep a seperate tool bar for the original message boards and the user boards. ------------------

ok ive been thinking...the make your own forum shit is a good idea but my suggestion would be to limit the forum maker access to just the moderators or summmin, since moderators are the most responsible.

That's Panaeolus cyanescens! no cubensis, thats already covered... But you know what I spent over 3 hours by hand typing in and formating a lot of data on all the exotic species that us advanced people are migrating over to and just now I find that all the forums are gone (well maybe its just a planetary alignment thing). But I did not appreciate all that work being deleted, if it is, and it is almost now assured that I am a lot more resistant to sharing my knowledge in the future on such topics.

but
cant say im sad theyre gone
cas they were about as popular
as leprosyi vote that two more topics
be added to to main board
as they cover a lot of what was in the user forums that is not addressed elsewhere

The User Forums were the only chance I'll ever have to be a moderator of anything. If you're taking away my forum, can I have some kind of title under my name as compensation? Something besides "Senior Member" to set me apart from the crowd and acknowledge my individuality? Like "Old Wise One" or something.And some power to go with the title would be nice too.  DD
