You will not get a job without your HS diploma on your resume.  Whether you lie about it or not is your choice, but if it's not there you almost certainly won't be getting a job unless it's doing construction or something like that.

I mean I may not be the best person to ask, I graduated HS on time, but I'm fairly certain you will have a hell of time getting a job without it.

No, there is no law requiring you to put that information on your resume, but most likely you'll be filling out an application for the job you're going for. On any application that I've seen they ask for your education level. I've never thought about if employers even look into that if it's only a HS diploma. :shrug:

I don't know if you are being serious or not, but I am. The only thing they double check on for minimum wage jobs is they might do a background check on you to see if you have any felonies and they might call a few of your references (if you list any). Other than that they'll just take your word for the most part just to get you in the door but a resume isn't going to get you hired, just to get you in the door and talking to the manager. Ultimately what matters is if he or she likes you and if he or she thinks you'll be a good fit for the job. You just need to have a smart and solid vibe and some good references and past experience and you're golden. If you have troubles getting a gig at first, do some volunteer work for added experience ans references. And ALWAYS hold a good relationship with your manager so you can use them as future references, even if it doesn't work out with the job. I recently got let go because I wasn't brining in enough money by my 30 evaluation but the mangers liked me and one of them said he'll tell future employers whatever I wanted. I only worked there for a few weeks but he said flat out he'll tell them I worked there for 3 months and whatever else to make me sound good, because in the end I was, I just wasn't a natural born salesmen. He also said come back in a year and try again if I wanted.

Yeah, I've heard lying on a resume can really hurt you if you've been caught. I was told by a business teacher that she knew someone who got really far in their career, but got layed off because someone found out he added fake community service/clubs in a resume he presented years before the current job

I'm saying it's not too late to get one; your post about the $200 said it all: the state doesn't have to pay for it anymore, but you can still get yours. Not get "it", get "yours". :smile:

The last guy gave you what you wanted to hear "nobody cares, blah blah" but many jobs, if not all, ask for a scan of your diploma if they're entry level. It's also requisite for college admissions and if you can bypass that, you may find yourself dropped from a $50,000+ year "real"/post-college job when it comes out (and it will eventually).

this is the layout i use for my resumes:


personal details at the top - name, dob, phone,e-mail, address, etc


career objective:
(one paragraph one your aspirations with in the role, your future plans (relative to the roll or industry) and why you think your right for the organisation. sell yourself here


professional skills and abilities
  • dot points
  • keep it short
  • professional skills and abilities that relate to what the job requires
  • tell them what they want to hear


academic achievements and experience:
  • again dot points, but sentences.
  • include awards, achievements, and special things you have achieved yourself.
  • this isn't the bit where you formally include your work history but maybe a sentence or so summary of your work history.
  • i.e. has considerable experience in the taking of numerous psychedelics and is really heady breh.



personal traits:
  • dot points, keep it short!
  • illustrate the things you do well!
  • also make it relevant to the job!
  • things that woudl be favourable to that work environment!



education: (can ommit this if you haven't studied much)
list from latest-first completed
  • 2012, got best post on shrmry for posting tits

thats a basic way to layout an epic resume, for good jobs don't forget to write a cover letter as well, and wear a suit to the interview

Walk in their drunk as shit and go to whatever manager is in and tell him you are there for the new position and ask when they want you to start.  Employers love confidence and people that know what they are doing.  Getting drunk is to show them you don't need the job and really don't give a shit one way or the other, this is leadership skills so the upper management might give you his job if they see you, this will give him more incentive to hire you right away.  As soon as you are hired quit right away, work sucks.

i didn't get a chance to look it all over, but your objective should be more succinct. what you put sounds more like something you would put in a cover letter (which probably isn't necessary for a job in retail).

Way shorter on that first paragraph.  The "objective" is typically considered to be optionally, and if you do put it in, it should just be a sentence.  Personally I have too many important things on my resume to fit an objective line.

When talking about a job, it's good to use three action points instead of one or two.  For example instead of:

- Informed customers with upcoming events

something like:

- Engaged, familiarized with, and informed customers about relevant upcoming events
