BUMP!!!
Any news on this idea yet? I spoke with Geokills about this a week or so ago... If we can write a script that will make all the post annonymous, I think we can do it.

Let me recap
A lot of people who don't want to sit online but would rather dig through the forums offline, can get an archived format of the site.
Some forums wouldn't be included such as OTD, the mods forum, etc... Just the mushroom cultivating forums.
I was told that the entire backup of the site was.... about 5GB ?
I've volunteered to mail out any DVD copies to people who would want them, I would just need one master copy to start with
An archived version of the forums on DVD is right now, more cost effective than using up bandwidth.
Once every quarter or twice a year, we can offer an updated archive. I'd mail and produce them for free (not terribly expensive) or people can donate a dollar or two to the shroomery.
The biggest problem we had was security. People who post pics of their grow may get paranoid!! So the idea of having a read only, all usernames are changed to "anonymous" would greatly help. No IP records or logs would be encluded on the archive.

we've already sold well over 50 copies of mycotopia's cds,
in the roughly 7 months we've offered them.
at $15 a pop.
folks on dial-up love it,
fast access.we're now over 700 megs on 2 disks,
no dvds yet.
you guys really should do this thing,
if nothing else do it
just in case shroomery ever goes down.

Thanks Anno
As for updates, I imagine there will not be any regularly scheduled updates - but hopefully it'll happen at least once a year.

As soon major changes happen on the main site, I guess every 6 months or so should be enough, unless we go through a major restructuring.

Also would stop people from being able to decide that "so-and-so" is a good and reliable source of info, looking for their posts to read.
It would severely hurt the informational aspect of it to disinclude the little internet names.
