You can't have a Shroomery thread without disagreements. I could post a thread about 1 1=2 and there'd be at least two or three people trying to argue it. To reveal the liberal/conservative agenda of course.

*sigh* as always!

So if you found any amount of money on the ground at the age of seven you would know to seek out the owner and turn it in? Most people wont even do that as an adult and you expect a little kid whose brain isn't even fully developed to know right from wrong on their own?

when i was 10 i was at a roller skating rink and found 20 on the floor and turned it into the dj. ended up getting that 20 at the end of the night. but it is unusual i admit. i earned that money and remember it still. i dont think i would be as proud of that memory if it wasn't earned.

Okay Pris I forgot you're the supreme ultimate ruler on all knowledge whatsoever. Excuse me while I go build up my shrine and pray to you before coming to such faulty conclusions again.

You took half of what I said wrong. I never said police should be involved in bullying, I just think psychological torment should be taken more seriously than a little theft.

Your brain isn't anywhere near fully developed as a seven year old, you have some higher reasoning functions that an animal does not and you can speak but little kids are psychologically pretty similar to monkeys at least and I've seen some cats do things that are way more intelligent than my little brother's actions.

Kids learn right and wrong through their experiences. Some kids don't learn about stealing until they're seven, who are you to say they're developmentally stunted just because they didn't have the same experiences as your kids? If you would actually read what I was saying I wasn't saying we should blame anyone for the kids actions but rather that the situation should be explained to him and it could be a lesson learned. In this case the wrong kid was punished and what do you think he learned from those 10 hours of interrogation? Not to trust the police, maybe? That even when he's telling the truth no one will believe him? I'm actually saying that the way it was handled involving the police was horrible and that people should guide children to teach them right and wrong, just like you taught your daughter. You can't blame the kid and immediately go to punishing them, you explain the situation and guide them.

Your kids knew because you taught them, not all kids are so lucky. Why do you twist my words? I'm saying we have to teach the kids, you doof, not call in the police and let them try and handle it the same way they handle criminal investigations with adults.

Well, seven years old is about the age at which a child develops critical thinking and logic according to this. Some develop quicker than other surely, and some later than others. I think we need the age of this cat that can steal money in order to settle this.

I actually had a cat steal twenty dollars from me once. I was at a friends house as a child and I had $20 out for some reason. The cat came by and grabbed it with its mouth and ran away. It took us like 10 minutes to find my money. True story.

and you've yet to show where it;s not, to pose it as you did

you dont go to every school, is every kid that steals something at school arrested?

my brain isnt as developed as a 7 year old's brain?

good to know, should I take that as an insult, it's pretty weak if it was :smirk:

at 7, most kids do have higher functioning brains, the ability to reason
included of course and part of that being that they can be taught, most
kids are presented with the chance to learn about theft long before 7 and if
they arent learning before school then it's clearly a failing on the part of
the parents

Quote:

you mean they dont also learn through example and by instruction? how would
we learn to read since experience of instruction is how we gain that

I'm not arguing that, it was handled badly, all 3 kids who were the ones
that had potentially taken the money should have been dealt with and not
by the cops, it also shouldnt involve school administration hounding the
kids into a confession but should be dealt with when the parents arrive to
discuss the matter with the school after being dragged to the office where
they can be monitored

so what happens when the parents dont teach the kids, what happens when
they're 11 and they pull a gun on some girl to steal her truck, shouldnt
they have learned the difference by then, what about at 17 when the stick up
a convenience store and murder the cashier, at 17 their brains are still not
fully developed and if mom and dad never taught them that murder is wrong
then surely the police shouldnt have to be involved, you know, because cats

I mean, first of all, you don't really know that your daughter actually learned a lesson about stealing when she was 36 months old. At that age I doubt she was considering all the implications behind "mine" vs "yours" or any of those things, she was probably imitating as children that age typically do. At that age children don't even have a sense of someone else's perspective so I really don't think she was learning a lesson about the moral implications of taking things that aren't yours and she certainly wasn't grasping the hurt feelings that come from theft...

Some kids have shitty parents and it's not their fault. Some kids just never deal with the experience of learning that picking something up off the ground isn't right because that experience, for whatever reason, doesn't come up in their life until they enter school and are dealing with a lot more peers than usual. So what if a kid doesn't learn until seven? Some kids learn at 36 months, some at 4 years and some at 7. Everyone develops differently and has different life experiences.

I don't know, 7 year olds can be complete assholes.  I will say that holding a 7 year old over $5 for several hours is a huge waste of police resources.  Problem should have been solved inside the school.

and this right here is the problem, we're letting books and websites tell us
about rearing a child as opposed to recalling our own childhoods and doing
things as we'd have liked them done when we were growing up

I never trusted Dr.Spock and his vulcan nerve pinch as a child discipline technique

only going by the results of last year's fiscal budget plan and it's utter failure to produce the desired effects, i can say that, liberals are bad parents. hence it follows, that liberals are indeed NOT a solution to my problems.

were your parents assholes?

When I was in 2nd grade there were some pretty scummy kids, and they grew up to be pretty scummy adults.  You know whats right and wrong at that age, and this is a great example of shitty parenting.  Its the bronx though, what do you expect?
