NYPD interrogate 7-year-old over suspected theft of $5
    #17633664 -

Quote:
This kid was no killer — but some callous Bronx cops sure treated him like one.

Instead of earning himself a simple trip to the principal’s office, a terrified 7-year-old boy was hauled out of class, handcuffed like a hardened criminal and “interrogated” by police for a grueling 10 hours — all over a playground dispute involving $5, his family is charging.

“My son was crying, ‘Mommy, it wasn’t me! Mommy, it wasn’t me!’ I never imagined the cops could do that to a child. We’re traumatized,” Wilson Reyes’ distraught mom, Frances Mendez told The Post last night.

“Imagine how I felt seeing my son in handcuffs!’’ she said. “It was horrible. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”

The bizarre overreaction by cops came after the child had been accused of swiping $5 from another student after school.

The money, which was supposed to be used for a school trip that never happened, had fallen on the ground in front of Wilson and two other boys, and one of them scooped it up.

Wilson was falsely accused of taking it, and he scuffled with one of the kids.

Officers showed up at PS X114 on Dec. 4 at about 10:20 a.m., and handcuffed and held Wilson in a room there for four hours. They then hauled him off to the 44th Precinct station house for another six hours of interrogation and verbal abuse, according to a $250 million claim against the city and the NYPD.

The boy protested his innocence, to no avail.

well, either it was for the good of the community... oooor... it was a waste of time, resources, and the willingness to exist without being fucking RETARDED.

either way, it's same old typical Amurrican bullshit.

in an area with historically bad crime i dont see an issue with the principal of the situation. kids are fucking rotten these days and parents dont teach for shit. it sucks that this happened to an innocent kid and that it took 10 hours to find this out, but i agree in taking less and less shit from rotten kids. $5 today can easily snowball over the next 11 years till the kid becomes an adult then what? im in favor of change myself.

You agree with arresting seven year olds and harassing them for hours over $5? Kids these days are no more fucking rotten than kids have always been, every generation says the one below them is worse because they do things differently. In reality kids used to be a lot worse to each other and it was not only accepted but often encouraged by parents when bullying was much more prevalent.

i agree with things being taken more seriously. sure the police might as well get involved because it is crime. taking him to an interrogation room is not ok to me and detaining for several hours is not ok to me. but making real change to try and repair a serious social problem like youth crime in the Bronx absolutely. yeah this story is tragic, but there's still one 7 year old child who now been stolen from, and another 7 year old child who has now stolen money from another child.

It's not a crime, it's a schoolyard dispute that in most schools would be handled by the administration. More severe acts of bullying happen every single day where people are actually injured and psychologically damaged and the police never get involved. All of the sudden when there's money involved it's important though.

I'm pretty sure the money was reimbursed if the police were involved and they now know which child stole the money. It wasn't exactly stealing either, these are young children. A bill fell in front of one of them and they picked it up, it's not like they were maliciously planning a break-in or collaborating with their gang.

You can't have a Shroomery thread without disagreements. I could post a thread about 1+1=2 and there'd be at least two or three people trying to argue it. To reveal the liberal/conservative agenda of course.

You clearly aren't in every school in America where bullying is pushed under the rug. I didn't say that no bullying is ever dealt with by police, I'm saying it happens multiple times every day at many, if not all, schools and most of the time it's not treated as seriously as when someone's material goods are taken, which is sad.

Is it theft if a cat picks up a $5 and walks away with it? A 7 year old has no sense of theft, their brains are hardly developed enough to even understand that other people have perspectives outside of their own let alone to understand that when someone drops a $5 you should give it back. It was an accident that could have been handled by the teacher.

and again i dont agree with the extremity of this situation i like the principle that its seen as not just boys will be boys. its a boy being victimized period. it should have been handled in a more situation appropriate way FOR SURE.

but look at the situation... at the age of 7 a boy is under the impression its acceptable to take something that is in no way earned. if this was my daughter (who is 7) i would be ashamed and livid that so much disregard for personal property and more importantly feelings were so blatantly disregarded. but im a huge stickler for integrity.

So if you found any amount of money on the ground at the age of seven you would know to seek out the owner and turn it in? Most people wont even do that as an adult and you expect a little kid whose brain isn't even fully developed to know right from wrong on their own?

being a bullying 'victim' and having a son who's gone through it last year
until he was told I stand behind him defending himself I'm pretty sure I
have a grasp on this whole bullying thing

getting police involved in bullying or in a case of petty theft at a school
is a prime example of the zero intelligence (tolerance) policies that
liberals push for, when I was in school if a kid picked on me and I was sick
of it, I'd beat the fuck out of them and all was good, unfortunately the
liberals/progressives wanted to do away with corporal punishment and self
defense and institute these policies where kids are jailed for being kids

are you comparing 7 year old humans to cats in intelligence?

oh wow...
you really didnt say that did you, that a 7 year old has no concept of theft

arent you in a psychology course or some shit? my kids understand it, god
knows I had to work with them through the conflicting experience in which
they saw their mother stealing and she said she was just borrowing it, and
when I caught my daughter stealing a piece of candy from a store that she
found on the floor from an open bag and marched her butt back into the store
to return it which is where I learned of the whole "borrowing" pile of shit
their mom was teaching them, she quickly learned the difference

my kids can tell you the difference and I know fr a fact that at 7 years old
I knew the difference but hey, you want to assume that a kid is too
developmentally stunted to understand the difference then you keep on
deluding yourself but dont blame society/cops/teachers for the over reaction
when we have liberals making excuses as opposed to teaching their kids about
these important values

And, there it is. Like clockwork. Pris, it seems like morning to night, most of your life is spent worrying about the liberals that make your life so difficult. Seems exhausting.

my kids know to bring it to me so we can find the owner, they know that just

ownership

now I'm starting to understand liberal think and how they blame society, you
expect children to have instincts as to what's right and wrong and see them as
feral until they develop the instinct as opposed to teaching them the difference

didnt you learn the difference before your brain was fully developed around adulthood?
